Responsibilities

The Head of Cargo is responsible for managing the cargo portfolio with a focus on profitability and growth. This role includes underwriting new and renewal business, leading a team of underwriters, driving strategic development, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve financial targets.

  • Manage the cargo portfolio using management data to analyze performance and profitability • Underwrite new and renewal business • Lead and manage a team of underwriters, including recruitment, compensation, performance management, training, and development • Develop and execute marketing and distribution plans • Manage broker relationships and prioritize market activities and meetings • Drive strategic and innovative initiatives for the cargo line of business and across functions • Travel within Sweden and to Norway as required • Manage the annual renewal of reinsurance treaties, including data preparation and coordination with brokers • Participate in business management meetings and report to the Head of SME/Affinity or CEO • Ensure achievement of financial targets through team collaboration • Support long-term profitability and growth through strategic planning and execution

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 10 to 15 years of experience in cargo underwriting or related insurance roles, with broking experience an advantage • Strong knowledge of insurance financials • Established network of broker relationships • Experience in building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients • Experience in leadership and people management preferred • Comfortable in a market-facing and representative role • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint • Strong English language skills, both written and spoken • Strong analytical and portfolio management capabilities • Ability to manage time and resources effectively to achieve objectives • Demonstrated accountability and ownership of results • Strong collaboration and teamwork orientation • Ability to challenge existing processes and drive innovation • Open-minded and able to listen and respond to stakeholder requirements • Effective decision-making using evidence-based approaches • Resilience and adaptability in a dynamic environment • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, law, business, strategy, or a related field required• MBA preferred
