Job description

Position Summary

Acuren Inspection is currently recruiting for qualified Heat Treat Technicians to support our operation in Kansas City, MO

The Heat Treat Technician performs heat treatment operations with limited supervision, setting up and operating furnaces, ovens, and quenching systems according to process specifications. This role interprets work orders, verifies temperature and time parameters, and ensures that treated materials meet metallurgical and dimensional requirements. The Heat Treat Technician II conducts hardness and microstructure checks, troubleshoots process deviations, and maintains accurate process documentation. This intermediate-level position requires strong technical understanding of heat treatment methods, equipment operation, and safety protocols, with the ability to train and support junior technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Set up of Pre-Heat and Stress Relief equipment
  • Ability to perform machining work is a plus
  • Must be available for call out jobs
  • Adhere to Acuren and Client Safety Policy and Procedures
  • Promote a positive safety culture
  • Complete JHA’s
  • Communicate effectively with Project Manager, QC Manager, and Supervisor
  • Maintain morale and professional presentation
  • Produce charts, Heat Treat reports, Hardness Testing reports to submit to QC

Other work duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of heat treatment processes (annealing, normalizing, quenching, tempering) and metallurgical principles affecting material properties.
  • Ability to set up, operate, and monitor furnaces, ovens, and quenching systems in accordance with process specifications.
  • Skill in interpreting work orders, technical instructions, and temperature/time parameters to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Proficiency in performing hardness testing and basic microstructure evaluations to verify metallurgical and dimensional standards.
  • Ability to troubleshoot process deviations, identify equipment irregularities, and implement corrective actions.
  • Strong documentation skills to accurately record heat treat cycles, inspection results, and process data.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and ability to work independently with limited supervision while supporting and training junior technicians.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in Heat Treat field
  • Must be able to pass an extensive background check
  • Must be able to pass company drug screen

Working Conditions

  • Work primarily performed in a non-climate controlled machine shop environment
  • Regular exposure to moderate noise from machine equipment
  • Frequent use of computers, measurement instruments, and precision tools
  • Occasional exposure to lubricants, cleaning agents, or other mild chemicals used in equipment maintenance
  • May require standing or sitting for extended periods while programming or operating machines
  • Work near moving mechanical parts or equipment in production areas
  • Adherence to safety procedures and use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory
  • Must be willing to overtime as needed

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS & DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, kneel, and crouch as needed
  • Sufficient balance and mobility to navigate various surfaces and elevations
  • Sufficient hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for operating equipment and handling tools
  • Ability to reach overhead and at various body heights
  • Adequate vision (with or without correction) for detailed work
  • Adequate hearing (with or without aids) to detect audible equipment indicators or alarms
  • Ability to wear and operate required personal protective equipment (PPE)
