Overview
This position manages all activities related to quality assurance and control including ISO/TS certification for both quality and environmental. More specifically, this position is accountable for supervision of the technical aspects of quality assurance and control, for much of the customer and supplier contact and reporting, for oversight of all quality-related systems and procedures, and for strategic input to the operating staff regarding quality goals.
Must maintain a broad knowledge of current quality techniques, and must be current with all manufacturing systems in use at Filtran. Must be familiar and able to work with all departments and personnel in the company in order to fulfill the responsibility for defect prevention and corrective action. Works closely with Production, Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, Sales and Marketing, Product Management, Design Engineering, and Finance, to help drive continuous improvement in the factory to achieve quality improvement through productivity improvement, labor cost and cost of quality reductions; all in adherence to Filtran quality systems and expansion thereof as appropriate to customer needs.
The goal of this position is to support the company’s efforts to maintain the highest customer quality ratings, the lowest cost of quality, the most favorable customer perception and the highest productivity ratings through robust processes and total quality assurance. This position is accountable for the supervision of training all personnel in the use of statistical methods of process control, statistical problem solving, and other quality-related matters, such as total quality assurance. This position is accountable to customers and other departments on day-to-day quality issues, resolution coordination, and closure at root cause.
This position must be able to follow formal problem-solving techniques such as Ford's 8-D and TOPS programs, and General Motors PR/R system. In addition, they must have the ability to work within all levels of the Division in a patient but firm manner to achieve our strategic quality objectives.
Responsibilities
- Organizational Mindset. Along with other departmental heads, instructs, coaches and develops employees responsible for the engineering, both design and process, production, and quality verification of product in the gathering of data, analysis of data, creation of action plans and implementation to optimize and develop sound quality practices and procedures.
- The Quality Manager will define a monthly metric dashboard to demonstrate the effectiveness of our quality assurance efforts.
- Oversee key department activities:
- PPAP activities
- Along w/ Manufacturing Engineering, operator work instructions
- Quality work instructions
- SPC monitoring
- Gage design
- Gage studies
- Customer Complaints
- PMDR activities
- Problem solving teams
- Control plan creation
- ISO/TS Certification, quality and environmental
- Along w/ Supply Chain Management, Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) involvement in the above, particularly w/ re: to PMDR activities
- Design review. The Quality Manager will participate in prototype feasibility reviews, TMR, production design reviews, and customer product reviews with the following groups: Manufacturing Engineering, Product Development Engineering, customer product engineers, Filtran production.
- Floor inspection support. The Quality Manager is to be used as a technical resource by floor inspection personnel. This assistance will include, but not be limited to: gaging procedures, problem-solving, team formation, instruction, interpretation of control chart patterns, and response to defects of unknown origin
- Monitor the safety of the plant and minimize the number of work related accidents in order to protect the safety of employees and to minimize the company’s financial liability.

Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline or related experience
5+ years of supervisory experience in manufacturing environment management
Automotive background with Tier I supplier
Hands-on experience with team building, Project Management, and DOE (Design of Experiments)
Knowledge and experience in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement concepts and implementation
Experience with 8D or similar problem solving methodologies
Track records of process improvements resulting in improved quality, efficiency, and cost reduction
Understanding of Safety and OSHA regulations and reporting requirements
Experience writing procedures, and corrective action process
Familiar with rigorous Automotive quality standards; foreign and domestic
Working knowledge of automotive Engineering Specification and Production Part Approval Process testing
Working knowledge of QS 9000, ISO/TS 16949, and ISO 14000/14001
Computer proficient including MRP systems
Desired
Master’s Degree
10+ years of supervisory experience in manufacturing environment
Experience in a high volume automotive component assembly environment and experience supplying to global OEMs
Experience in benchmarking of “Best-in-Class” companies in the areas of manufacturing, new product introduction, and quality
Hands-on experience with strategic planning for global manufacturing in foreign countries with actual on-site role
Hands-on experience with Asian automotive manufacturing and company culture impact on manufacturing processes
Experience with plastic injection molding, plastic welding, and metal stamping processes
American Society for Quality (ASQ) certifications: Quality Manager, Quality Auditor
Computer proficient in
- Access, statistical software programs
In-depth or working knowledge of filtration theories
Proven track record of continuous improvement, process improvement
Salary Range: $110,000-$125,000
