About the role

We are seeking an experienced ServiceNow CMDB Design Lead to architect and oversee the design of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB). The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in CMDB data modeling, integration, and governance, coupled with leadership skills to guide cross-functional teams and stakeholders through complex data architecture initiatives.

Main activities

CMDB Design & Architecture

Lead the design and implementation of the ServiceNow CMDB schema, including CI classes, attributes, and relationships.Develop and maintain best practices, standards, and guidelines for CMDB data modeling.Collaborate with ITSM process owners to align CMDB design with incident, problem, change, and asset management processes.Conduct impact analysis for changes to the CMDB structure and data.Stakeholder Engagement & Requirements GatheringEngage with business and technical stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective CMDB models.Facilitate workshops and design sessions to validate architecture and gather feedback.Provide expert guidance on data quality, normalization, and lifecycle management.Data Governance & QualityEstablish data governance frameworks for CMDB data integrity, accuracy, and compliance.Define and implement data validation, reconciliation, and audit procedures.Monitor and improve data quality metrics continuously.Integration & AutomationOversee integration of discovery tools, external data sources, and automation scripts with the CMDB.Ensure seamless data flow and synchronization across systems.Lead efforts to automate CI updates and maintenance processes.Leadership & MentoringAct as a technical leader for the CMDB team, mentoring junior staff and coordinating with cross-functional teams.Lead design reviews, technical assessments, and documentation efforts.

People Management:Does not have direct reports, but has responsibility for entire squadCan act as a team leader on occasion coordinating / managing a few individuals for a specific opportunity. The team leader function would be within region; however, it could be a global opportunity where coordination / management activity would cross regional boundaries.Will perform as a mentor and coach8+ years of experience in ServiceNow platform configuration, with a focus on CMDB design and data architecture.Proven expertise in designing scalable, accurate, and compliant CMDB models aligned with enterprise ITSM strategies.Experience leading CMDB design workshops, stakeholder engagement, and cross-team collaboration.Strong understanding of ITIL best practices, data governance, and configuration item (CI) relationships.Ability to translate business requirements into technical CMDB solutions, ensuring data integrity and usability.Knowledge of integrations with discovery tools, external data sources, and automation workflows.

Education

Graduate/Postgraduate degree in Business, HR, Technology or related field

Qualification

Extensive experience with ServiceNow platform configuration, especially CMDB modules.Proven track record designing enterprise-scale CMDB solutions.Experience with discovery tools (e.g., ServiceNow Discovery, SCCM, BMC Discovery).Knowledge of ITSM processes and ITIL framework.Familiarity with automation scripting and APIs.

Certifications

ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist – ITSM or CMDB (preferred)ITIL Foundation or higher certificationAdditional certifications in data management or enterprise architecture are advantageous
