Responsibilities
- Perform screening and diagnostic mammography examinations according to physician orders and established protocols.
- Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the exam process, addressing concerns, and obtaining relevant medical history
- Position patients accurately to obtain optimal diagnostic images while maintaining patient comfort and dignity.
- Operate mammography equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring image quality and radiation safety standards are met.
- Assist radiologists during breast biopsy procedures, needle localizations, and other interventional breast imaging procedures as needed.
- Evaluate images for quality, completeness, and diagnostic acceptability prior to submission for interpretation.
- Document patient information, exam details, and procedural notes accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Follow all hospital, departmental, MQSA, ACR, state, and federal regulations related to mammography services.
- Perform quality control testing and equipment checks according to established guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms and equipment.
- Educate patients regarding breast health, screening recommendations, and follow-up procedures when appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with radiologists, referring providers, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Participate in continuing education and maintain required certifications and competencies.
- Exhibits an acceptable work ethic as evidenced by regular and prompt attendance, as well as following all timekeeping/ clocking policies.
- Utilizes proper body mechanics when:
- Moving, positioning and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety.
- Moving equipment/supplies necessary to perform essential functions.
- Demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards.
- Works assigned schedule including overtime.
- May assist with training of Mammography students.
- Reviews CPOE and written orders, verifying information is accurate, appropriate, and complete, consulting with healthcare providers as needed.
- Provides radiation protection according to prescribed safety standards.
- Maintains aseptic or sterile technique, as appropriate, when performing biopsies, aspirations, or localizations.
- Recognizes emergency situations and initiates code procedures as needed.
- Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
- Regular and prompt attendance
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
- Related duties as assigned
Additional Information
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent, successful completion of an approved course in Radiologic Technology, 1 year of experience conducting routine diagnostic procedures, and completion of a program in advanced modality or 1 year of experience in advanced modality. Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology may substitute for the required experience in conducting routine diagnostic procedures Preferred
- Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Diagnostic Radiology Upon Hire Required
- (M) ARDMS or ARRT - Mammography Certification within 1 Year Preferred
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
- Advanced registry is highly preferred and may be required fo certain modalities.
- Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
