Compost Technician

OVERVIEW

JOB TITLE: Compost Technician LOCATION: St. Paul PAY RATE: 16.50 HOURS: 10 hr/week

Job Summary

I am seeking an assistant to help manage a worm composting operation in a biology lab at the University of St. Thomas. The work will involve maintaining about a dozen worm farms. Duties include chopping discarded fruits and vegetables, creating bedding, harvesting liquids and finished compost from bins, and coordinating with partners from other organizations. No prior experience necessary. Hours are flexible. The position will require ~10hr/wk from ~Jan 5 through May 31. Continuation into Summer 2026 is possible.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong work ethic and positive attitude
• Ability to work independently and responsibly
• Ability to work joyfully with rotten fruits and vegetables, worms, and worm castings.
• Ability to maintain a clean work space
• Ability to react positively to challenges that arise
• Ability to work 10 hr/week throughout the time of the position (although vacation time will be possible)
• Good communication skills

Preferred qualifications

• Interest in agriculture, gardening, and/or environmental sustainability

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
