About the opportunity
SWCA’s Chicago, IL office is excited to fill a Assistant Project Manager position, focusing on office and field work supporting renewable energy, oil/gas and other client projects in the Midwest Sub-Region. This individual will support both natural resources and cultural resources projects in the Mid-West, providing project coordination, budget management, scheduling, data management, and related tasks in support of our Project Managers. This position is a regular (with benefits), full-time, hourly position eligible for overtime pay. Preferably, the position will based in the Midwest but highly qualified candidates from other parts (= distributed) of the USA will be seriously considered. Those outside the Midwest will likely have additional travel requirements to work with Midwest-based projects and project managers.
Internal SWCA staff with related but somewhat less experience than the requirements listed below are still encouraged to apply.

What you will accomplish
- Coordinate with clients, agencies, subconsultants to facilitate project management tasks, under the direction of Midwest Project Managers.
- Assist Project Managers with pre-field planning and logistics, project scoping, proposals, budget tracking (i.e., labor and other expenses, accounts receivable and payable, overruns and change orders), timetables, progress reports, invoice review, file organization and documentation, project close-out, and potentially technical reports.
- Establishes and maintains effective consultative relationships with clients, regulators, and other relevant external stakeholders, proactively communicating and reporting project status, updates, KPIs, issues, and risks.
- Take initiative, resolves problems, and create improved procedures to ensure that tasks are completed in the most effective and efficient manner.
- Review and update internal tracking databases and spreadsheets
- Keep track of schedules and due dates on a daily basis for multiple projects
- Exhibits good communication and human relations skills
- Demonstrates the ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Maintain SWCA’s high standard of scientific ethics and quality assurance, and identify and resolve problems in creative ways.
- Take responsibility for team safety, assisting in safety plans, and identifying potential safety hazards.
Experience and qualifications for success
- Bachelor’s Degree in cultural resources, planning, or natural resources discipline preferred.
- Two years of relevant industry experience required, and three years preferred
- At least one year performing related job duties listed above required; two years preferred.
- Understanding of SWCA’s project management tools, processes, and quality control expectations.

An employee in this Chicago-office based position can expect a rate of $30.32/hour to $38.59/hour . Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
