Job Summary

This position is an advanced journey-level Engineer responsible for leading, coordinating, and managing feasibility studies, vulnerability assessments, and infrastructure investigations for treatment, distribution, and conveyance facilities. You will provide technical leadership in the planning, development, and implementation of capital improvement programs and infrastructure reliability initiatives. You will also ensure all projects are delivered within the established scope, budget, quality, and schedule requirements while supporting organizational objectives and strategic initiatives.

What You’ll Do

  • Plan, organize, and conduct technical evaluations to support infrastructure planning, reliability improvements, and operational objectives.
  • Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and recommendations for capital improvement and infrastructure programs.
  • Secure program and project authorization, funding approvals, and stakeholder support through technical analyses and business case development.
  • Negotiate, administer, and manage contracts, agreements, and professional service engagements with consultants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Monitor consultant and contractor performance to ensure compliance with project scope, quality standards, budget requirements, and schedule commitments.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, external agencies, and regulatory stakeholders to achieve program objectives and ensure project delivery.

Schedule: 44/36, Monday through Friday/Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday.

Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

Travel: This position will require travel to various District facilities throughout the service area.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and six years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Associate Engineer level; OR Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Associate Engineer level.

Degree in a related field is defined as: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering or other related Engineering degree

Relevant Experience is defined as: Working with treatment or conveyance of drinking water, recycled water/water reuse, and/or wastewater treatment processes, OR experience implementing engineering capital projects developing key infrastructure for local and regional utilities. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:License(s): • Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.• License in good standing as a California Professional Engineer (required at time of application) .
