Principal Electrical Engineer

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Principal Electrical Engineer to work in our Reading office on a staff basis. The succesful candidate will be a specialist who is recognized as a technical expert within the department or division of the company.

We are currently looking for people with the drive and commitment to make a genuine difference to our performance on projects across the full life cycle, from studies and FEED to EPC, to ensure that Wood continues to differentiate itself from its competitors by delivering quality projects to our client’s requirements.

You will contribute to the delivery of Engineering excellence through:

• Definition and approval of technical scopes
• Executing assigned scopes of work
• Providing discipline expertise to the business including Technical Authority responsibility where assigned
• Contributing to business growth
• Providing highly technical expertise
• Develop and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and services that are carried out by others
• Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering designs, products, equipment, and other engineering deliverables
• Possesses a thorough knowledge of general principles and theories in a professional field and contributes significantly to the solution of applied problems
• Provide professional direction and guidance on complex assignments or projects and guidance to business unit and divisional management
• Solve complex non-recurring problems requiring formulating and testing hypotheses based on limited evidence or precedent; exercises seasoned business judgement in developing innovative business solutions
• Provide consultative direction to other functional areas or groups and across the organization, recognized as an authority in the company
• Exercise technical authority over groups of professional personnel. In addition to specialization, generally directs highly qualified professionals engaged in complex engineering deliverables, applications, and projects
• Provide technical reviews for complex projects within area of expertise
• Involved in providing engineering support to Business Development group and project teams

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering with significant experience of Electrical System Design in Refinery / Petrochemical / Chemical / Power / Pharmaceutical Plant Projects
• Knowledge of electrical power systems, international codes & standards and Industry accepted electrical engineering software such as ETAP, SKM
• Ability to effectively manage resources (personnel, equipment, materials etc.) and inspire and motivate a team
• Ingenuity and initiative to coordinate problem resolution and to executive the schedule requirements within a team environment
• Effective communication skills with proficiency in technical writing and comprehensive documentation
