Overview
The Mechanical Engineer will support the development of advanced light scattering instruments by designing, building, and validating opto-mechanical systems. This role contributes to both new product development and improvement of existing platforms, working closely with electrical, optical, and systems engineers.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Design opto-mechanical components, assemblies, and enclosures for liquid chromatography and light scattering instruments.
- Develop precision mechanical structures for optical alignment, thermal management, and fluidics integration
- Support product lifecycle from concept, prototyping, V&V, and design transfer.
- Perform mechanical testing, tolerance analysis, and DOE-based validation
- Ensure performance, reliability, and manufacturability of designs
- Create CAD models and drawings using Autodesk Inventor (or equivalent)
- Apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and maintain design documentation
- Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and design reviews
- Work with EE, optics, and system engineers for integration
Qualifications
Education
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

2–5 years in precision instrumentation, opto-mechanical systems, or similar
Technical Skills
- Strong CAD skills (Inventor/SolidWorks)
- GD&T, tolerance analysis, material selection
- Experience with optics packaging and alignment preferred
- Familiarity with thermal and structural simulation tools
Preferred
- Experience with analytical instruments
- Hands-on lab and prototyping skills
