Job Overview

GEM is seeking a mid-level investment professional to join our Investment Research Group to support our private equity portfolio. This professional will report to a Director in the Investment Research Group and work to evaluate primary and secondary investment opportunities in private equity funds and co-investments alongside independent sponsors and buyout managers.

We are seeking a candidate with prior leveraged buyout experience who is passionate about investing and generating top quartile returns for GEM’s clients. The ideal candidate will be highly self-motivated, organized, and possess the qualitative and quantitative skills required to evaluate investments. Mid-level investment professionals at GEM have the latitude to work independently, build networks, and recommend investment ideas.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

The position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Grow and help to maintain a fresh pipeline of emerging private equity sponsors
  • Underwrite private equity sponsors, both in a funded and independent sponsor construct
  • Underwrite co-investment opportunities alongside GEM sponsors
  • Expand GEM's reputation as a leading LP within the broader small buyout ecosystem
  • Contribute to identifying and underwriting secondary investment opportunities
  • Train and mentor junior investment professionals

Qualifications

Successful candidates will display traits inherent in GEM’s collegial and team-oriented culture, including enthusiasm, honesty, humility, integrity, and curiosity.

  • Undergraduate degree with strong academic performance
  • 5+ years of relevant experience working in private equity, investment banking, or institutional investing with a track record of successful performance
  • CFA Preferred, but not required
