Job description

Mid-State Welding fabricates structural and miscellaneous steel for commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects. Our shop produces beams, columns, stairs, rails, platforms, embeds, bollards, supports, and custom steel assemblies that are shipped directly to job sites.

We are hiring a Structural Steel Fitter who can read shop drawings, lay out assemblies, fit parts accurately, and catch problems before they become rework.

What You'll Do

  • Read shop drawings, weld symbols, piece marks, dimensions, and bill of material information.
  • Fit and assemble beams, columns, plates, angles, channels, stairs, rails, platforms, and welded steel assemblies.
  • Lay out work using tape measures, squares, levels, clamps, magnets, and fitting tools.
  • Align, square, clamp, and tack components before final welding.
  • Verify dimensions, hole locations, orientation, and fit-up accuracy.
  • Identify drawing conflicts or missing information before fabrication moves forward.
  • Work closely with welders, machine operators, supervisors, and quality personnel.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Help reduce rework by identifying issues early.

Compensation/Benefits

  • $26-30 hourly rate (based on experience)
  • Generous medical coverage (90% employee coverage after 60 days)
  • PTO and 9 paid holidays
  • Weekly pay
  • Amazing company culture/work-life balance

Requirements

  • Experience fitting structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or welded steel assemblies.
  • Ability to read fabrication drawings.
  • Strong measuring and layout skills.
  • Ability to square, level, align, and fit assemblies accurately.
  • Basic tack welding experience.
  • Understanding of weld symbols, piece marks, and fabrication sequencing.
  • Ability to work independently after receiving instructions.
  • Reliable attendance and consistent work habits.

Work Environment

  • Indoor steel fabrication shop.
  • Standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting throughout the shift.
  • Work around overhead cranes, forklifts, welding, grinding, and cutting operations.
  • Required use of PPE and adherence to safety procedures.

Apply today if you can look at a fabrication drawing, understand how the assembly goes together, and build it accurately before the first weld is completed.
