About The Role

Overall purpose of Role

The Digital Data Assistant will support the organisation's data transformation initiatives by ensuring that legacy and source data is accurately cleansed, standardised, and prepared for migration into target systems. The role is critical to maintaining data integrity, supporting regulatory compliance, and enabling reliable reporting and decision-making post-migration.

Skills & Experience

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, pivot tables, lookups, data manipulation).

• Ability to work with large datasets and perform structured analysis.

• Understanding of data quality principles, data structures, and basic data transformation concepts.

• Experience with data migration projects or system implementations (desirable).

• Exposure to tools such as Power BI, Power Query, or SQL (advantageous but not essential).

• Previous experience in data entry, administration, or data-related roles preferred

• Exposure to data migration or system projects advantageous

Main Responsibilities

  • Working as part of a team to ensure that all activities on site are carried out in accordance with the relevant work instruction, adhering to the necessary Company health, safety and environmental requirements and complying with all regulatory current legislation to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Maintaining an awareness of the regulatory and Company standards that apply to the role such as H&S, COMAH, Environment, HMRC, FEMAS (food & feed safety), ISO9001. Understand and act in accordance with the Site Emergency Response Plan in the event of an evacuation or major incident, and regularly participate in COMAH improvement activity.
  • Data Quality & Cleansing
  • Review, cleanse, and standardise datasets in line with defined data standards and business rules
  • Identify and correct data inconsistencies, duplication, and inaccuracies
  • Support continuous improvement of data quality across core systems
  • Data Migration Support
  • Validate migrated data to ensure completeness, accuracy, and integrity
  • Maintain audit trails of changes for traceability and compliance
  • Data Governance & Compliance
  • Apply data standards, naming conventions, and classification rules
  • Support data ownership and stewardship activities across departments
  • Ensure data handling aligns with internal policies and regulatory requirements
  • Reporting & Analysis Support
  • Prepare structured datasets for reporting and business intelligence use
  • Assist analysts and stakeholders with data preparation and validation
  • Highlight data quality risks that may impact reporting accuracy
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work with business teams to understand data requirements and issues
  • Communicate data-related issues clearly and professionally
  • Undertake any training or qualifications that are required to fulfil your role competently and/or to meet changing legislative and safety requirements.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement activities to deliver productivity and cost efficiencies and improve operational performance.
  • Any other duties that may reasonably be required in line with your contractual role.

Founded in 1885, The North British Distillery Company Ltd (North British) is one of Scotland's oldest and largest Scotch Whisky producers. We originally operated under the structure of a co-operative until 1993 and are now owned as a joint venture between Diageo plc and The Edrington Group.

We are a distillation and maturation business selling grain spirit which is used as the base for blended Scotch Whisky by many well-known brands. The Distillery is based in Gorgie (Edinburgh) and this site is responsible for the production of new-make spirit, producing a by-product of animal feed, and energy via an Anaerobic Digestion plant. Our main Warehousing site is based in Muirhall (Addiewell, West Lothian), with 15 maturation warehouses and responsibility for bonding, storage and disgorging.
