The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and compliance-focused Senior Payroll Officer to join our Group Payroll team. This is an exciting opportunity for a payroll professional who is passionate about payroll governance, compliance, continuous improvement and delivering accurate outcomes in a complex environment.
 

As Senior Payroll Compliance Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring payroll processes align with legislation, organisational policies and compliance requirements. You will contribute to payroll audits, support system testing, identify improvement opportunities and provide guidance on compliance-related payroll matters.
 

You will work closely with the wider payroll team and key stakeholders to strengthen payroll accuracy, governance and operational excellence.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure payroll processes comply with relevant legislation, enterprise agreements and organisational policies

  • Complete payroll compliance reviews, checks and reconciliations

  • Support payroll audits and investigations, identifying risks and improvement opportunities

  • Assist with payroll system testing and validation to ensure accuracy and functionality

  • Provide advice and support on payroll compliance matters

  • Complete superannuation reconciliations and compliance checks

  • Assist in the administration and processing of parental leave requests.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation and regulatory requirements

  • Interpret awards and enterprise agreements to support accurate employee payments

  • Review payroll processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

  • Support payroll team members and promote a collaborative team culture

  • Analyse payroll information and identify trends, issues and opportunities for improvement

About You

You are an experienced payroll professional with strong compliance knowledge, excellent analytical skills and a passion for improving payroll processes.
 

You are confident working with legislation, awards and enterprise agreements, and enjoy investigating issues, solving problems and providing accurate advice to stakeholders.

Key Experience & Capability

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a high-volume payroll environment

  • Strong end-to-end payroll experience including payroll operations, superannuation reconciliations, STP, end-of-month and EOFY processes

  • Demonstrated experience interpreting payroll legislation, awards and enterprise agreements

  • Experience supporting payroll compliance activities, audits or process reviews

  • Strong understanding of ATO requirements and payroll obligations

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to identify issues and develop practical solutions

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

  • Experience with payroll systems, time and attendance systems and reporting tools

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
