Job description

What's The Role

The OSP Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and supporting outside plant infrastructure, including cable locating, outage repair, network surveys, power supply maintenance, and participation in new network builds, in accordance with the Company’s procedures and standards. The role requires participation in shift work and on‑call rotations across St. Vincent and the Grenadines, responding to service issues impacting the company’s products and services as operational needs require.

What You'll Do

  • Performs daily routine troubleshooting of the company transport/distribution network from the FLOW central office and/or network node through the distribution cable to the TAP/DP to restore customer service in accordance with agreed industry standards and processes.
  • Performs inspection of aerial and underground copper, fiber, and HFC plant infrastructure using system prints, monitoring systems, cable locating equipment, and other visual methods to prevent or resolve cable damage and service interruptions.
  • Performs installation and maintenance of aerial and underground copper, fiber and HFC plant infrastructure or equipment to restore cable plant to system specification and build or activate new cable plant as required to ensure optimal network functionality.
  • Perform installations, routine maintenance and/or replacement of power systems that support the transport/distribution plant and infrastructure
  • Performs Cumulative Leakage Index (CLI) ride-out and RF tests on basic and advanced cable test equipment to track and repair leakage in accordance with Broadcasting Commission and Spectrum Management regulations.
  • Troubleshoots the forward and return path in the drop from the tap to the customer's equipment for multiple services.
  • Inspects existing ground to ensure compliance with company requirements and standards, making referral to correct existing grounding or installing new ground as required to protect employees, customers, and equipment from damage
  • Works collaboratively with other members of Field Services, Dispatch and Technology to diagnose/rectify faults within relevant SLAs, during regular business hours, shift work schedules and overtime as required after hours, on weekends, public holidays and when on call or called out.
  • Performs surveys and audits and prepares reports to support the assessment of service availability for potential customers, as well as the design and capacity planning of the transport network to ensure timely and orderly growth.
  • Update and maintain transport and distribution plant drawings/records in the required format and storage location daily or as otherwise required.
  • Performs post‑work review and service verification with customers to ensure understanding, agreement, and acceptability of video, data, and voice services by assessing voice quality, television picture quality, and PC/modem connectivity.
  • Complete and updates daily work orders and tickets for each job by the close of the assigned shift and promptly fulfil all required administrative reporting.
  • Performs job in adherence with safety procedures as outlined by the company’s HSE standards, adhering to all relevant safety procedures to ensure individual and team compliance.
  • During normal day-to-day activities, namely but not limited to vehicle cleaning, inspections, equipment stocking and unloading as required to support daily responsibilities.
  • Drives company vehicles in a safe and responsible manner; ensures vehicles are properly maintained and reports any required repairs or servicing. Promptly reports all accidents, incidents, losses, injuries, property damage, and/or customer impacts to the Supervisor.
  • Complete assigned tasks efficiently and effectively while unsupervised
  • Complete assigned work tasks throughout St. Vincent and Grenadines including assigned work in the grenadines that require extended overnight stays.
  • Participates in and successfully completes all required job‑related/required training and effectively applies acquired knowledge and skills to perform job duties competently.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Supervisor to achieve departmental goals and objectives.

What You'll Need

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of prior experience with technical responsibilities related to CATV and telecommunications services industry
  • Professional certification (e.g., NCTI) or training in broadband cable systems is highly desirable.
  • 5 years’ experience in cabling and electrical installations
  • Must have knowledge of computers and standard operating systems including
  • Strong competence in the use of Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Possess knowledge of electrical standards
  • Valid private and goods vehicle driver’s license with satisfactory 5-year driving record
  • Must possess knowledge of calculating RF signal levels losses and gains.
