Responsibilities

What You'll Do

Medication Support

  • Assist residents with the safe self-administration of medications in accordance with physician orders and Elderwood policies.
  • Follow the Five Rights of Medication Administration to ensure medication accuracy and resident safety.
  • Properly store, label, and handle medications, including controlled substances.
  • Observe residents for changes in condition and promptly communicate concerns to licensed nursing staff.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of medication assistance, resident observations, and changes in condition using electronic health records and other required systems.

Resident Care

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, and mobility in accordance with training and resident care plans.
  • Promote resident dignity, comfort, independence, and personal choice in every interaction.
  • Respond promptly and compassionately to resident needs and requests.
  • Assist with dining services and other resident support activities as needed.

Teamwork & Safety

  • Participate in shift reports and collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to provide exceptional resident care.
  • Follow all Elderwood policies, infection prevention protocols, and safety standards.
  • Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Participate in ongoing education, competency training, and required in-service programs.

Qualifications

Medication Technician

Minimum age: 18 years

Skilled Nursing Facilities: CNA or LNA required

Vermont only: State authorization as a Medication Nurse Assistant (MNA) required

Successful completion of a Medication Technician training program (preferred)

Ability to pass the Elderwood Medication Technician competency test

High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)

Long-term care experience (preferred)

Completion of required RCA training modules within designated onboarding timeframe
