Systems Engineer Lead, Information Technology
Job description
Overview
This role is hybrid and requires you to live within 150 miles of the Greater Seattle, WA area to support operations in Sumner, WA.
This role helps power REI’s day-to-day work by ensuring employees have reliable, secure, and easy-to-use technology wherever they are. The Systems Engineer Lead designs and supports the tools and platforms behind our Windows and macOS devices—making it seamless for teams to stay connected, productive, and focused on serving our members.
In this role, you lead how devices are set up, updated, secured, and supported across both cloud and on‑premise environments. You bring together systems like Intune, Jamf, and Configuration Manager (SCCM) to create a consistent and scalable experience for co-op employees. Just as importantly, you look for ways to simplify and automate processes so teams can spend less time troubleshooting and more time doing their best work.
You’ll partner closely with engineering, security, and operations to improve how we deliver technology, while promoting standards, self-service, and continuous improvement. This role reflects REI’s commitment to thoughtful innovation, strong partnerships, and creating tools that help people do their best work in support of the co-op and our members.
- Technical Leadership & Strategy Serve as the technical lead for endpoint platforms, translating business needs into scalable, reliable solutions and setting direction for how platforms evolve.
- Architecture & Platform Ownership Define and maintain endpoint architecture, including OS strategy (Windows/macOS), hardware standards, lifecycle management, and alignment with enterprise standards.
- Project & Delivery Leadership Lead medium-to-complex initiatives, managing technical plans, risks, and dependencies while ensuring solutions are production-ready across teams and vendors.
- Endpoints & Automation Drive automation and standardization of device lifecycle processes (provisioning, patching, configuration, compliance) using tools such as Intune, Jamf, and SCCM.
- Reliability & Continuous Improvement Establish and improve platform reliability through performance monitoring, resiliency practices, and data-driven insights that enhance user experience and system stability.
- Incident Response & Problem Management Lead incident response, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to reduce repeat issues and strengthen platform stability.
- Coaching & Technical Guidance Mentor engineers and support teams, promoting best practices, knowledge sharing, and consistent operational excellence.
- Vendor & Partner Management Manage vendor relationships and contracted services to ensure delivery meets technical, security, and operational expectations.
- Operational Readiness & Documentation Ensure production readiness through clear runbooks, support models, monitoring, and recovery planning across the service lifecycle.
- Decision Making & Accountability Make day-to-day technical decisions for endpoint platforms, including standards, tooling, and deployment approaches, while aligning with security, architecture, and compliance guardrails
Responsibilities and Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in endpoint engineering supporting business-critical environments at scale
- Experience administrating and engineering within endpoint management solutions; Jamf, SCCM, InTune, and Azure Virtual Desktop using Nerdio
- Strong hands-on expertise with Windows and macOS, including device lifecycle, patching, and security hardening
- Proven ability to automate workflows using scripting tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) and build repeatable, scalable solutions
- Experience operating in 24x7 environments, including participating in on-call rotations and leading incident response and follow-through
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
