POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Security Officer is responsible for leading and performing both administrative and operational duties for all security-related functions during an assigned shift. This position provides protection for Tuba City Regional Healthcare Corporation (TCRHCC) personnel, patients, visitors, and property, ensuring a safe and secure environment across the facility. The Lead Security Officer oversees all on-site security operations during their shift and serves as the primary point of contact for law enforcement agencies in the absence of the Assistant Security Manager (ASM) and Security Manager. The roles require sound judgement, discretion, and the ability to manage sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality. Key responsibilities include supporting and administering organizational security plans, monitoring operations for compliance with established procedures, and assisting with the development and maintenance of security protocols, manuals, and documentation. The Lead Security Officer also maintains inventory of all security-related equipment and coordinates with the ASM to ensure operational readiness. The role requires regular, predictable attendance and the ability to respond promptly to emergencies or critical incidents. Lead Security Officers are subject to callback and therefore they are required to be on-call as needed to maintain 24/7 security operations.
Qualifications
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High School Diploma or GED
Experience
One year of supervision OR two (2) years previous experience with providing security services to a large organization or healthcare facility. Acceptable experience includes services in the armed services that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.
Certification
- Must have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA), if none must obtain within ninety (90) days of employment hire date.
- Must maintain and have a valid State Driver’s License with no restrictions.
- Must complete Defensive Tactic certification within 90 days of hire
- Must complete Handle with Care certification within 90 days of hire
- Must successfully complete the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) Basic Certification for Security Officer and Supervisor Level within six (6) months of hire
Other Skills and Abilities
A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas:

- Must obtain certification for Defensive Tactics, Handcuffing Tactics, Defense Baton, Pepper Spray Defense, and De-Escalation within ninety (90) days of employment hire date and maintain certification every two years .
- Participate in all required quarterly and annual training courses, including the Physical Assessment Battery, Active Shooter Response, Emergency Management, Use of Force protocols, and other assigned training.
- Must maintain at least one current Instructor Certification relevant to security operations (e.g., Defensive Tactics, De-escalation, etc.)
- Performs all Security Officer duties (see Security Officer job description) and oversees Security Officers assigned to a shift. Duties include planning, scheduling, organizing, and directing work, training personnel and recommending applicants for training opportunities or corrective actions.
- Ensures each Officer assigned to the shift have appropriate certification, training, and knowledge in the use of hand cuffs, handheld radio, expandable baton, non-lethal chemical spray, a flashlight and performing approved restraining techniques correctly. Inspects officers daily for appearance and has their hospital identification cards. Randomly verifies security officers have valid drivers’ license and have current BLS card.
- Complete Performance Evaluation for Security Officers.
- Executes procedures and processes to provide physical protection for personnel and TCRHCC property and meets required codes and regulations. Ensures Security Officers priorities are followed based on policies and procedures. Communicates clearly and effectively with management, employees, patients, visitors, and vendors.
- Ensures Officers conduct routine security rounds, so that the facility is adequately locked and/or secured during pre-designated hours. Checks doors and windows of building to ensure they are tightly closed and locked; notes in written log any unlocked doors/windows; submits information to supervisor. Unlocks buildings/doors after checking for identification and compliance with TCRHCC policies.
- Assists Security Manager in the development or revisions of department policies. Administer and ensures the security officer adhere to established policies and procedures.
- Supports and conducts internal investigations in accordance with TCRHCC policies. Reviews incident report for clarity, correctness, and submits for approval. Ensures departmental record, i.e. daily logs, monthly statistics, briefing logs and other required documentations are completed before the end of shift. Ensures Security Officers are clocking in/out properly and on time.
- Assists with the administration of the operation of all security related systems; access control, BRIVO system, surveillance cameras, employee ID badges, etc. during shift.
- Addresses security issues and/or complaints promptly and maintains communication with individuals and/or groups involved. Discusses any problems and issues/concerns with the Assistant Security Manager and Security Manager. Shall immediately report to the Assistant Security Manager and Security Manager on situations beyond their normal routine activities.
- Secure lost and found articles. Receive, tag, log, and make secure all lost and found articles. Attempt to contact owners, if known, and make arrangements for return of property. Keep lost and found storage area clean, neat, and secure. Make proper disposition of articles not claimed within holding period as set out in Departmental Policy and Procedures Manual.
- Participates in the current fire and disaster plan.
- Conducts minor animal control.
- Assist with transportation and lifting of decreased patient.
- Ensures that all Security Officers assigned to a shift meet all TCRHCC Security Grooming and Uniform Standards.
- Ensure proper PPR is worn at all times while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering face piece respirator or higher, if available, and eye or face shield.
- Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (See CDC website for most current updates)
- Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee, and external customer satisfaction.
- Delegation for Assistant Security Manager when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
