Job Requirements
Company Overview
Coherent Corp. is a vertically integrated manufacturer of lasers, engineered materials, and networking components, serving industrial, optical communications, military, life sciences, semiconductor equipment, and consumer markets. (Verbatim positioning Coherent uses across its real postings.)
Role Summary
We're hiring a Senior Semiconductor Engineer to own process/device development and yield improvement for compound semiconductor products (e.g., InP, GaAs, VCSEL, or epitaxial process lines — confirm which division/product line before posting). The role bridges device physics, fab process control, and cross-functional product integration.
Responsibilities
Drive process development, qualification, and yield optimization for semiconductor wafer fabrication (epitaxy, etch, lithography, or scribe/break — line-specific)
Lead root-cause and corrective-action investigations for process excursions using SPC/FMEA methodology
Partner with R&D, product engineering, and manufacturing to transition new designs from prototype to volume production
Own process documentation, control plans, and change qualification (QRB) processes
Mentor junior process/test engineers
Support customer-facing technical reviews and design-win activities where applicable
Work Experience
Required Qualifications
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or related field
5–7 years of hands-on semiconductor process, device, or test engineering experience
Working knowledge of SPC, FMEA, and Six Sigma methodologies
Experience with cleanroom/ESD protocols and wafer/die handling
Programming/scripting (Python, C) for process data analysis and test automation
Data analysis tools: JMP, MATLAB, or equivalent
Preferred
Experience with III-V compound semiconductors (GaAs, InP) or VCSEL/laser diode processes
ISO 9001/14001 exposure
ASQ or Six Sigma Black Belt certification
