How You'll Make an Impact: The Interim Payroll and Payroll Tax Implementation Manager will lead and own the multi-state payroll and tax workstreams for our Workday implementation. This role is highly hands-on and requires a unique mix of system configuration expertise, deep payroll tax knowledge, and project management skills. The successful candidate will ensure a smooth transition from our legacy system, manage the 2026 year-end and Q1 2027 tax balancing, parallel-test the new system, and train the internal team. This is a non-exempt, temporary position with an immediate start date and an end date of April 9, 2027. Workday Implementation & Testing · Serve as the primary Workday Payroll and Tax subject matter expert (SME). · Lead the design, configuration, and testing in Workday of all payroll functions. · Support data mapping, data migration validation, and system configuration auditing related to all payroll functions. · Drive Phase 1 and Phase 2 Parallel Testing, comparing legacy payroll results against Workday. · Identify, document, log, and resolve payroll defects and configuration errors. · Validate end-to-end employee data, including deductions, garnishments, and withholding elections. · Identify and implement effective and efficient payroll processes and system improvements. Payroll Tax Compliance · Validate multi-state and local tax setup across all jurisdictions in Workday. · Manage the 2026 payroll year-end tax close and filing reconciliations. · Oversee Q1 2027 payroll tax balancing and reconciliations. · Audit payroll reports, general ledger (GL) mapping files, and third-party tax filings. · Manage audits, inquiries, and tax notices where applicable and in partnership with the payroll specialists. · Ensure Workday is set up to be configured in compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, payroll tax regulations, and company policies. · Stay informed about regulatory changes affecting payroll (FLSA, tax changes, multi-state rules, etc.). Team Leadership & Collaboration · Provide hands-on training to internal payroll specialists and administrators on payroll and payroll tax. · Review and validate live payroll processing prepared by the Senior Payroll Administrator. · Partner with HR, IT, and Finance to streamline post-go-live cross-functional workflows. · Document new internal control procedures, payroll policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). · Support day-to-day payroll operational gaps during peak implementation cycles. How You'll Strengthen Our Team: Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience). 5–7+ years of payroll experience, including multi-state payroll. Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements. Experience implementing Workday across multiple states with over 1,200 employees. Proficiency with payroll/HRIS systems (ADP, Workday, UKG, Ceridian, Paycom, etc.). Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and confidentiality. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage deadlines with a small team.
