Why we need you

As a Legal and Compliance of Omise, you will be leading the legal and compliance team that is a cornerstone of business operations at Omise. You will be ensuring all well-implemented legal practices and processes empower Omise to focus on its growth opportunities across all the countries it operates and will operate (SEA and global) while developing legal frameworks and processes that champion legal and regulatory compliance. You will also play an utmost important role in managing business partners and law firms for all legal-related matters. You will ensure that our internal policies align with the regulatory landscape and provide indispensable legal expertise to other business functions. The position reports directly to the Head of Risk and Compliance of Omise.

What you will be doing

Legal & Contract Management

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various sorts of agreements, including but not limited to Service Agreement for all applicable products of Omise and operation-related agreements.
  • Manage legal vendors to optimize their local expertise and minimize legal risks for all business activities.
  • Monitor and report on legal developments and implications
  • Provide best practices and responses to any matters that engage the company in arbitration and/or litigation.
  • Work with internal and external auditors to continually improve legal processes and practices.
  • Study and gather legal information through research to provide timely advice on impactful matters.
  • Acting as a business partner providing indispensable legal expertise to all other business functions
  • Counseling C-suite and other heads of departments on legal issues and mandatory proceedings
  • Developing legal frameworks and processes that champion legal and regulatory compliance
  • Studying and gathering legal information through own and team’s research to provide timely advice on impactful matters
  • Supporting the Risk and Compliance department as a sounding board for their compliance-related policy and regulatory management
  • Working with internal and external auditors to continually improve legal processes and practices.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor the regulatory landscape in regards to card schemes, payment service, money laundering, and personal data protection.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with regulatory authorities, including but not limited to, BOT, AMLO, and Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC).
  • Support our AML/CFT compliance program and support the KYC and risk team when evaluating high-risk merchants.
  • Ensure a speedy and appropriate reaction to any matter in which ML/TF is suspected.
  • Continuously review and update policies to reflect compliance and business requirements.
  • Provide internal training related to compliance requirements.
  • Work with business units to ensure that our new products/services are within the scope and align with the regulatory requirements.

You

  • LLB or LLM with 5 years experience in legal firm(s) or multinational company(ies)
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance programs, policies and procedures, general commercial laws and laws related to financial technology.
  • Previous working experience in compliance in the payment industry is an advantage , as is experience with BOT’s regulations and risk.
  • Excellent people and project management skills with an ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Fluent English speaker and excellent writing skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, good communication, cross-cultural skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance programs, policies and procedures, general commercial laws and laws related to financial technology
  • Specialization or professional practice in laws relevant to Omise business, e.g. private law, banking law, insolvency law, international law, contract law, tort law, financial services, or comparative law is preferred.
