Job description

Job Overview

We are seeking a Lead DBA – Database Administrator (PostgreSQL + AWS) to join an international organisation within the tourism sector. The person in this role will be responsible for the administration, optimisation and resilience of large-scale PostgreSQL database environments hosted on AWS (RDS / Aurora). This position involves managing production-grade systems, collaborating with engineering teams working in English, and contributing to infrastructure as code practices.

Responsibilities

  • Administration and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases.
  • Manage PostgreSQL deployments on AWS RDS and Aurora, including configuration and lifecycle operations.
  • Monitor database performance, availability and stability; implement observability and alerting improvements.
  • Perform performance tuning and query optimisation to support production SLAs.
  • Support capacity planning and scalability for large datasets and high-concurrency workloads.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure using Terraform, including revisions and improvements to existing IaC modules.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database incidents and production issues in a timely manner.
  • Work with datasets of substantial size, including databases that exceed 50 TB.
  • Collaborate with international engineering teams, communicating technical matters in English.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a comparable role.
  • Expert-level knowledge of PostgreSQL, including internals, configuration and advanced features.
  • Proven experience with AWS RDS and Aurora for PostgreSQL deployments.
  • Practical experience with Terraform for infrastructure maintenance and development.
  • Strong expertise in database performance tuning, query optimisation and resource management.
  • Experience operating and supporting large-scale production databases.
  • Fluent English.
