BACKGROUND & CONTEXT
Nigeria plays a critical role in West Africa's trade and economic growth. APM Terminals Nigeria operates Apapa Terminal, West Africa Container Terminal (Onne), Kano Inland Container Depot, and supports San Pedro (Côte d'Ivoire) as part of the wider cluster.
This role provides strategic financial leadership across the Nigeria cluster, partnering with business leaders to deliver sustainable growth, operational excellence and strong governance.
ORGANISATION & STAKEHOLDERS
Reporting to the Regional CFO (Africa & Europe) with a dotted line to the Country CEO, the CFO is a key member of the Nigeria Leadership Team.
The role:
- Leads a finance organisation with six direct reports across multiple locations.
- Partners closely with Terminal Managing Directors and functional leaders.
- Works collaboratively with regional and global finance teams.
- Travels regularly across the Nigeria cluster.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Finance Leadership
- Partner with the Country CEO and Leadership Team to shape business strategy and drive sustainable growth.
- Lead planning, budgeting, forecasting and performance management.
- Develop investment cases and support capital allocation decisions.
- Provide commercial insights to support strategic decision-making.
Financial Stewardship & Governance
- Ensure accurate financial reporting, statutory compliance and timely month-end close.
- Maintain strong accounting practices across local finance teams and Global Service Centres.
- Lead treasury, working capital, tax compliance and Board reporting.
Risk & Controls
- Lead enterprise risk management and strengthen financial controls.
- Ensure timely resolution of audit findings and compliance actions.
- Oversee fraud prevention, insurance and governance frameworks.
People Leadership
- Build and develop a high-performing, inclusive finance organisation.
- Drive succession planning, capability development and talent growth.
- Foster collaboration across local, regional and global finance teams.
Continuous Improvement
- Champion Lean and the APMT Business System to simplify processes, improve efficiency and embed continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Must-have
- Significant leadership experience in Finance within a multinational or complex business environment.
- Strong expertise in financial planning, accounting, governance, treasury, tax and risk management.
- Proven experience partnering with executive leadership to drive business performance.
- Experience leading and developing high-performing finance teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
Nice to have
- Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business.
- Professional qualification (CPA, ACCA, CA or equivalent).
- Experience within ports, logistics, infrastructure, manufacturing or other asset-intensive industries.
- Experience working across Africa or other emerging markets.
