Job description

About the role

As Research Project Manager within the Diabetes Research Centre, you will provide high‑level research portfolio support to the work of Professor Kamlesh Khunti across several major research centres, including the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East Midlands, the NIHR Global Health Research Centre and the Centre for Ethnic Health Research. The role focuses on coordinating and supporting high‑quality public health and clinical research, contributing to academic outputs such as conference presentations, manuscripts and literature reviews, and supporting the development of research funding applications.

You will manage a varied workload with a high degree of autonomy, working closely with academics, research managers, external partners and patient and public involvement groups. Alongside research administration and dissemination activities, you will help to promote a positive and inclusive research culture, ensure compliance with University and funder policies, and contribute to the wider academic life of the University.

About you

You will hold a PhD and have strong experience of working on health‑related research projects, with a sound understanding of public health and clinical research. You will have contributed to journal publications and conference presentations, conducted literature reviews and worked effectively within research teams to deliver administrative and coordination support. Experience of contributing to funding applications and leading academic writing would be an advantage.

You will bring excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical ability and meticulous attention to detail, alongside the confidence to work independently and manage competing deadlines. You will be comfortable using a range of IT and collaborative tools and able to build effective working relationships with colleagues and partners at all levels.

Additional information

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Dr Ash Routen, Research Fellow in the Diabetes Research Centre at ar516@leicester.ac.uk.

As part of the University's ongoing commitment to professional development, this role will also be considered on a seconded basis for existing staff members. Please ensure this is discussed with your line manager prior to applying. More information regarding secondments can be found here
