The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery, & Health Sciences consists of three national schools.
About the role
We are seeking an outstanding academic leader for the position of: Executive Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery and Health Sciences. This is a critical senior leadership role responsible for driving the strategic direction, academic excellence, and operational performance of the Faculty.
As Executive Dean, you will provide visionary leadership across teaching, learning, research, and engagement, strengthening the Faculty’s national and international reputation. You will lead a geographically dispersed academic community, foster innovation and continuous improvement, and ensure alignment with the University’s mission and strategic priorities.
This role reports to the Deputy Vice- Chancellor Academic.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of the Faculty’s strategic and operational plans, ensuring achievement of key performance objectives and growth in reputation and impact.
- Provide strong, visible leadership , driving excellence in program design, delivery and continuous improvement across all disciplines.
- Oversee the development and accreditation of new programs and ensure the highest standards in teaching and learning, curriculum innovation, and student outcomes.
- Drive research excellence by strengthening research capability, fostering collaboration, securing competitive grant funding, and delivering on institutional research targets.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key external stakeholders, including industry, government, professional bodies, and the broader community.
- Lead change management and contribute to University-wide transformation initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and organisational goals.
- Foster a high-performing, collegial and inclusive culture that supports academic achievement, innovation, and staff development.
- Ensure effective stewardship of Faculty resources, including financial, human and physical assets, to deliver sustainable outcomes.
Qualifications, skills & experience
- Demonstrated excellence in academic scholarship and research, evidenced by recognised scholarly achievements, alongside a proven track record of effective leadership and management at a senior level within higher education.
- Strong understanding of the higher education landscape, with a strong appreciation of the complexities involved in leading and growing a Faculty in a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment.
- Exceptional leadership and management capability, with a demonstrated history of successfully driving, implementing, and evaluating organisational change across multi-campus and multi-jurisdictional settings. Strong commercial acumen and the ability to align strategic initiatives with institutional performance goals.
- Advanced capacity to lead and enhance excellence in teaching and learning, while fostering internationalisation initiatives and strengthening collaboration both within the Faculty and across the broader University.
- Proven ability to plan and prepare for long-term organisational change
