Job description
SUMMARY
To work collaboratively with appropriate healthcare professionals to ensure information in the medical record is present, accurate and completed in a timely manner so that the appropriate quality is captured, as well as expedient reimbursement of patient care services, serve as backup in managing record deficiency process, serve as backup for the chart analysis, scanning, transcription and release of information process, serve as backup in assisting physicians and various healthcare providers with medical records and the deficiency process.
JOB DUTIES
- Works collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure information in the medical record is present, accurate and completed in a timely manner so that the appropriate quality is captured, as well as expedient reimbursement of patient care services.
- Supports the deficiency management process by compiling and maintaining an accurate provider deficiency list, as well as following all steps of the deficiency process, including but not limited to monitoring provider deficiency lists daily, sending out physician deficiency notifications and reporting accurate and appropriate information to the Medical Record Executive Committee when needed.
- Migrate documents from outside vendor systems to Meditech ensuring that the documents are accurate, facilitating timely document copy delivery to appropriate healthcare professionals, as well as facilitating the timely completion of coding and billing.
- Works with Clinical Documentation Improvement staff to optimize documentation and reimbursement by facilitating the physician query sheet process in a timely and accurate manner.
- Monitors and addresses issues on various coder hold lists to ensure timely completion of coding and billing. This entails working with various departments in solving registration, charging and ordering issues.
- Monitors the Net Delivery program, as well as provider information in Net Delivery/Meditech, including the provider's address, telephone number and fax number, reporting issues or updates when they arise, ensuring expeditious and accurate copy generation of provider documentation.
- Assists and supports healthcare providers with various medical record issues as needed.
- Engages in administration of medical record error correction policy, ensuring accurate information in the medical record.
- Serves as backup to the ROI (release of information) process, Transcription process, as well as the HIM technicians (I and II) following all applicable rules and regulations (HIPAA), as well as productivity and quality standards.
- Interacts appropriately with all internal and external customers.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
High school graduate and equivalent secondary education skills.
Demonstrable knowledge or experience with medical record departmental practices, computer use, HIM functions and filing systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of chart components and uses. Medical Terminology needed.
Demonstrated knowledge of chart forms, uses and accurate verification of patient identification.
Familiarity with legal and regulatory requirements.
Graduate of Medical Secretary, Medical Office Assistant preferred.
Experience in a Medical Office or Medical Record Department preferred.
Previous customer service experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Generally works in a well-lit, clean, temperature regulated office environment. May be required to be in various hospital departments.
