Job description

Heavy Equipment Operator / Construction Worker

Harmans, Maryland

Build Something That Matters. Not Just Another Job.

Lighting Maintenance Inc. (LMI) is looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator / Construction Worker to join our Construction Department based out of Harmans, Maryland.

This position will support construction projects in and around Maryland, with some travel to different job sites throughout the region as needed.

This is not a job for someone who only wants to sit in a machine all day. We are looking for a real construction worker who can operate equipment safely and efficiently, but who is also willing to get out of the equipment and work with the crew when the equipment is not needed.

That may mean digging, shoveling, setting forms, installing conduit, helping pour concrete, setting light pole bases, assisting electricians, loading materials, cleaning up the jobsite, or doing whatever else is needed to finish the project safely and correctly.

We hire team players — not people who say, “That’s not my job.”

Equipment You May Operate

  • Skid steers
  • Excavators
  • Mini excavators
  • Digger derricks
  • Cranes
  • Trenchers
  • Forklifts and telehandlers
  • Other construction equipment as needed

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Operating equipment for outdoor electrical and lighting construction projects
  • Excavating trenches, pole-base holes, foundations, and utility areas
  • Performing concrete work, including setting forms, preparing bases, placing anchor bolts, and helping pour concrete
  • Building and installing concrete bases, pole bases, equipment pads, and related foundations
  • Assisting with layout, forming, grading, backfilling, and site restoration
  • Setting light poles, concrete bases, and related structures
  • Operating digger derricks and cranes to unload, move, and install poles, bases, and materials
  • Assisting with underground electrical construction, conduit installation, and lighting infrastructure
  • Working on projects involving site lighting, parking lot lighting, sports lighting, roadway lighting, and commercial outdoor lighting systems
  • Loading, unloading, and transporting materials and equipment
  • Performing daily equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance
  • Working alongside electricians, foremen, and construction crews
  • Following all company safety procedures, including PPE, traffic control, excavation safety, lifting/rigging safety, and equipment safety requirements
  • Traveling to job sites throughout Maryland and the surrounding region as needed

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience operating multiple types of construction equipment
  • Experience with concrete work, forms, concrete bases, foundations, or pole bases
  • Experience with lighting construction, electrical construction, utility work, site lighting, sports lighting, roadway lighting, or commercial outdoor lighting is a strong plus
  • Strong equipment safety habits
  • Ability to work around underground utilities, traffic, crews, inspectors, and active construction sites
  • Willingness to perform physical construction work when equipment is not needed
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work as part of a crew
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • CDL is a strong plus
  • Crane, rigging, signal person, or digger derrick experience is a strong plus
  • Must be willing to follow company systems, paperwork, documentation, and safety requirements

Why Join LMI?
