GenomicsEngland
Senior Product Manager - Data & Platform Products - 12 Month FTC (we have office locations in Cambridge, Leeds and London)
Job description
Help shape the platform behind the UK's national clinical and genomic infrastructure
At Genomics England, we're building the digital foundations that enable genomic medicine at scale.
We're looking for an experienced Senior Product Manager to lead a portfolio of platform products that underpin the Healthcare Genomics Service. These are not end-user facing product - they are the critical data stores, APIs and shared capabilities that other engineering teams and healthcare systems depend on every day.
If you're excited by platform product strategy, enabling complex systems, and working alongside exceptional engineers to solve difficult technical problems with real-world impact, we'd love to hear from you.
The opportunity
You'll own a portfolio of production platform products that support genomic data processing and access across the Healthcare Genomics Service.
This is a highly technical platform product role, best suited to Product Managers with proven experience working on internal platforms, infrastructure or developer tooling, rather than customer facing products. You'll make both tactical and strategic decisions that improve reliability, scalability and developer experience across multiple teams, balancing today's operational needs with long-term platform evolution.
You'll work at the intersection of product, engineering and architecture - shaping capabilities that enable the wider organisation to move faster while maintaining the consistency and high standards required in a regulated healthcare environment.
What you'll be doing
Lead the vision, strategy and roadmap for shared platform products, ensuring their capabilities deliver measurable value across Genomics England and the wider NHS ecosystem.
Work closely with engineers and technical leads to shape scalable, API-first services and reusable platform capabilities.
Balance platform evolution, operational stability, technical debt and new delivery against organisational priorities.
Work with peers to define a clear long-term platform product strategy, and drive migration away from legacy components towards that strategic future.
Use data and meaningful outcome measures to understand platform health and impact.
Partner across multiple teams to identify common capabilities, reduce duplication and improve developer experience.
Operate confidently in a complex, regulated environment with strong governance and assurance requirements.
Build trusted relationships with technical and business stakeholders, making transparent prioritisation and trade-off decisions.
Mentor product managers and contribute to product excellence across the organisation.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who will embrace a role owning platform products.
You will likely have:
Experience owning shared platform, infrastructure or data products used by multiple teams.
Strong systems thinking and the ability to understand complex technical landscapes.
Experience defining product strategy and translating it into measurable outcomes and roadmaps.
Confidence working closely with engineering teams on APIs, platform capabilities and long-term technical evolution.
Experience balancing reliability, scalability, operational excellence and product investment.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills in technically complex environments.
A pragmatic, outcome-focused approach to decision making under ambiguity.
Experience in healthcare or genomics is helpful but not essential. We're more interested in your ability to lead complex technical products and collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
Why join us?
As an experienced Senior Product Manager with strong technical expertise, you'll have the opportunity to shape data and platform products that form part of the UK's national genomics infrastructure and contribute to technology that directly supports live healthcare service and research.
This is an opportunity to work on genuinely challenging platform problems with talented engineers in a truly mission-driven organisation, where your decisions will have organisation-wide impact rather than being limited to a single product or feature.
Please note: This role is offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract aligned to a major strategic programme of work. While we cannot guarantee future funding or extensions, there is a substantial programme of work beyond the initial term.
While your qualifications are certainly important and provide a foundation, we're particularly interested in understanding the breadth and depth of your overall experience, particularly your experience leading technical platform, infrastructure and data products while working closely with engineering teams, as this gives us a clearer picture of what you can bring to the role.
Salary From: £86,100
Please Note: This is a 12-Month FTC (Fixed Term Contract)
Closing Date: Sunday 19th July @ 23:00 (UK Time)
