Job Description:
General Summary of Duties:
1. Perform and monitor laboratory functions needed to guide care of patient with a hematology and cancer diagnosis.
2. Demonstrate and apply knowledge of routine lab tests.
3. Demonstrate and apply knowledge of diagnostic codes and billing processes needed for laboratory testing.
4. Demonstrate proficiency in specimen safe-handling.
5. Process specimens for in-office testing.
6. Prepare specimens for shipment to testing facilities/reference labs.
7. Perform, monitor, and document quality control tasks. Document any corrective action as applicable.
8. Demonstrate proficiency in laboratory information system (LIS) and electronic medical record (EMR).
9. Communicate with multiple reference labs for the purpose of order transmission and problem resolution.
10. Review lab orders and results for accuracy and timeliness.
11. Any and all other duties as requested by management or the board.
Performance Requirements:
1. High school diploma required.
2. Medical assistant or phlebotomy experience preferred.
3. Laboratory and oncology experience are preferred.
4. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment.
5. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Demands of Position: This position requires sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting or moving materials up to 50lbs. This position includes occupational exposure to pathogens.
Typical Working Conditions: Typical office/laboratory environment.
