Virtasant
Sr. DevOps Engineer (AWS / Terraform)
Job description
About Virtasant
Virtasant is a global technology services company with a network of over 4,000 technology professionals across 130+ countries. We specialize in cloud architecture, infrastructure, migration, and optimization, helping enterprises scale efficiently while maintaining cost control.
Our clients range from Fortune 500 companies to fast-growing startups, relying on us to build high-performance infrastructure, optimize cloud environments, and enable continuous delivery at scale.
About the role
Our client runs a healthcare platform processing sensitive clinical data, built entirely on AWS . Their central DevOps team is the gateway for all infrastructure changes across ~8 engineering teams — every Terraform change, CI/CD pipeline, and infrastructure request in the organization routes through it. The team is heavily loaded: senior engineers lose a significant share of their week to incoming requests, reviews, and operational fixes instead of their core platform initiatives.
You will be the engineer who owns that incoming stream. Embedded in the team’s scrum, you’ll take the operational backlog — infrastructure change requests, bug fixes, PR reviews, environment issues — so the platform engineers can stay on their roadmap. This is a hands-on, high-throughput role for someone who enjoys clearing a queue well , not a project-ownership or architecture role on day one. Those who prove themselves here have historically grown into larger scopes.
This role can consider candidates who are based either in Latin America OR in the USA. If you live in any other part of the world, please don't apply, as we can't consider you.
What You’ll Do
•
Pick up infrastructure change requests from engineering teams: Terraform PRs reviewed and applied through Atlantis , service configuration, IAM and permissions changes, resource right-sizing (CPU/memory), storage and lifecycle tasks.
•
Work the team’s PR review queue — infrastructure changes org-wide require DevOps review before applying.
•
Handle operational fixes and remediations in non-production environments; troubleshoot CI/CD and deployment issues for application teams.
•
Triage and respond to Datadog alerts on infrastructure and data services; tune noisy alerts.
•
Support common AWS request patterns: S3 buckets and lifecycle policies, SFTP/Transfer Family setups, Parameter Store/secrets, ECS service changes.
•
Participate fully in the team’s scrum — stand-ups, sprint planning, ticketed work with clear acceptance criteria.
•
Document what you fix; leave runbooks behind.
What We’re Looking For
Must-Have Experience
•
7+ years in DevOps/platform / infrastructure engineering roles.
•
Strong Terraform — this is the core daily tool; comfortable reading, writing, and reviewing others’ modules. Experience with PR-driven IaC workflows ( Atlantis, Terraform Cloud, or similar ).
•
Solid AWS across the core services: ECS, S3, IAM, VPC networking basics, CloudWatch . You don’t need every service — you need to be safe and fast in a large AWS estate.
•
CI/CD literacy — able to debug pipeline failures and container build/deploy issues ( Docker required ).
•
Scripting — Bash and/or Python for automation and one-off fixes.
•
Service temperament — this role is interrupt-driven by design. You need to context-switch cheaply, communicate clearly with engineers from other teams, and take satisfaction from throughput and unblocking people.
•
Full professional working English , written and spoken.
Nice-to-haves
•
Experience in HIPAA- or otherwise-regulated environments (healthcare, fintech) — comfort with scoped access, change control, and compliance-gated workflows.
•
Datadog (or equivalent observability stack) experience.
•
Exposure to FinOps / cost optimization — tagging, right-sizing, S3 lifecycle cleanup.
•
Kubernetes (the estate is ECS-first, but container orchestration depth transfers).
•
Experience embedding as a contractor inside a client scrum team.
Practical notes
•
All engineers complete PHI/HIPAA training and sign data-handling agreements; access is tiered and scoped.
