CDL Truck Driver

Job Summary

Cherokee Brick & Tile Company is seeking a dependable and safety-focused CDL Truck Driver to transport brick products, raw materials, resale items, and production materials to customer job sites and company facilities. This position is responsible for operating commercial motor vehicles, including tractor-trailers, straight trucks, dump trailers, and tandem dump trucks, while complying with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (DOT), state, and company safety regulations. Drivers are responsible for conducting vehicle inspections, securing cargo, maintaining accurate records, operating truck-mounted forklifts when authorized, and providing exceptional customer service during deliveries.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safely operate company-owned or leased commercial motor vehicles in accordance with FMCSA, DOT, state, and company regulations.
  • Transport brick products, block products, raw materials, resale items, and production materials to customer and company locations.
  • Load, unload, inspect, and safely transport materials while preventing product damage.
  • Secure cargo using load bars, chains, straps, binders, and other approved cargo securement devices in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
  • Verify load accuracy and ensure all materials are properly secured before leaving the facility.
  • Operate truck-mounted forklifts and other material handling equipment when trained and authorized.
  • Complete required pre-trip, en route, and post-trip vehicle inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns immediately.
  • Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, delivery tickets, shipping documents, and other required transportation records.
  • Deliver materials safely and professionally while providing outstanding customer service.
  • Safeguard company vehicles, trailers, forklifts, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized vehicle and work area.
  • Report accidents, injuries, vehicle damage, unsafe conditions, and incidents immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support transportation and operational needs.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate required.
  • Previous commercial driving experience preferred.
  • Experience operating truck-mounted forklifts or similar material handling equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and applicable state transportation regulations.
  • Ability to safely inspect vehicles, identify maintenance concerns, and properly secure cargo.
  • Ability to read and understand delivery paperwork, inspection reports, shipping documents, and safety procedures.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of safety awareness.

Physical Requirements

This position requires sitting for extended periods while driving and standing or walking during deliveries, inspections, loading, and unloading. Frequent climbing in and out of trucks, trailers, and forklifts is required, along with bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, reaching, and climbing ladders or trailer steps. Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally move heavier items with assistance. Frequent gripping and use of hands is required when securing cargo and operating equipment. Employees must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around moving vehicles, forklifts, and heavy equipment while wearing required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, and high-visibility clothing.

Schedule

Day shift, Monday through Friday. Start times vary based on assigned routes and customer needs. Drivers typically work five scheduled days per week and may work up to 60 hours depending on operational demands. Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required. Drivers must comply with all applicable FMCSA Hours of Service regulations.
