Main Accountabilities:

Design authority for an engineering discipline with low to medium complexity. Complete assignments on small projects or portions of larger projects, cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements. Based on technical specification from end customers and inputs from OU Engineering team, the senior Civil engineer is responsible for the analysis , design, detailing and delivery of Civil solutions for substations, Bill of materials, RFQs, vetting of vendor offers, Engineering hours estimation, visit to project sites, technical risk assessment and opportunity evaluation etc

Associate with Engineering Leads, Tendering team, Project managers, Primary, Site execution team, SCM, Secondary and Steel design functions, consultants, end customers etc. and provide required support in each Project / Tender.

The candidate should have experience managing at least five (5) GIS or AIS substation projects across the full project lifecycle. Experience of Retrofit/brownfield project is desirable.

Activities Involved

Able to perform the following activities:

Review and validate Civil Design Specification in alignment with project requirements, site conditions, load parameters, load combinations, material specifications, and overall design philosophy, ensuring compliance and obtaining client approval. Develop and validate load combinations for the Apparatus support foundations, Tower foundations & Buildings considering reliability levels and applicable design codes. Perform design of Apparatus support foundations, Tower foundations, Raft Foundations, Control room buildings, GIS buildings, Precast buildings, Transformer foundations, Anchor bolt, Pile Capacity check, Trenches, oil collection pits, Firewalls, roads & drainage using Excel templates and STAAD.Pro/Robot Structural Analysis Professional tools. Perform Existing transformer foundation design check & Puraceptor Sizing. Develop and Validate Civil Bill of Quantities. Review geotechnical investigation reports, coordinate with the project team for missing data, and interpret soil parameters to propose suitable foundation types- (Shallow/Deep/Raft/Pile). Provides solutions for complex or challenging soil conditions. Demonstrates strong capability in performing site grading calculations to determine optimal grade levels, reviewing cut-and-fill quantities, and independently proposing efficient site grading solutions to minimize earthwork. Reviews Civil design calculation & complete substation civil layout drawings & sections. (e.g., foundation layout, foundation detail drawings, Transformer foundation drawings, cable trench layout, grading layout, drainage layout, Cablepit details). REVIT - Performs 3D modelling & Advanced family creation with meta data information including complete substation civil layout & section drawings, (e.g., foundation layout, foundation drawings, Transformer foundation drawings, cable trench layout, oil pit drawings, grading layout, Site levelling layout, drainage layout, Cablepit details). Perform interoperability and clash detection. Responsible for obtaining customer approvals for the designs and drawings. Technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation. Ensure Ontime delivery of design deliverables & to be vigilant on project schedule impacts. Take part in customer meetings / site visits for tender/project clarifications. Estimation of engineering effort for each project for costing at tender stage. Innovative ideas to reduce Engineering effort. Plan, implement, review and continuously improve quality system. Ensure the Safety through design principles which meant for complete project lifecycle. As Built documentation.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (B.E / B. Tech)
  • Master’s degree in civil/structural Engineering (M. Tech)

Specific Knowledge & Skillsets:

  • Civil design experience in Substation Project engineering & Tendering activities.
  • Hands-on experience in the Civil design of Contril room buildings, GIS Buildings, Precast buildings, Apparatus support foundations, Tower foundations, Raft foundations, Transformer foundations & Existing transformer foundation design check.
  • Standards-Familiar with Eurocodes including country specific National annexures of (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, UK, Netherlands), British codes, American codes, IBC, IEC, NTC code, Russian and Australian standards.

Perform structural Analysis and design of Apparatus support structures-(Lattice/Hollow Profile/RSJ),Gantry structures, Skid structures, Built-up Sections, Mobile framed structures & Steel Buildings including(Switchgear, STATCOM,SYNCON facilities), along with Rehabilitation structures-(Existing Gantry structures) using Excel templates and STAAD.Pro/Robot Structural Analysis Professional tools. Perform connection design for the Gantries, Apparatus support structures & Steel buildings using Excel templates and IDEA StatiCa Tool. Hands-on knowledge of galvanization and painting procedures for structural steel, including surface preparation, corrosivity class, coating application, and standards. Preparation of Material Requisition (MR) documents for the Support structures for the purpose of placing a Purchase Order (PO). Reviews Steel design calculations, BOQs, Steel support structure GA and shop drawings & Steel building drawings. TEKLA - Performs 2D editing and 3D drawings for Apparatus support & Gantry structures, Steel Building drawings. Uses template editor, creates custom components and macros, performs clash checks, and reviews models & drawings. Responsible for obtaining customer approvals for the designs and drawings.
