Qantasgroup
Platform Manager - Salesforce
Job description
- At Qantas, our teams come together to create new and unique experiences for our customers.
- A fantastic opportunity to own and grow the Salesforce platform that powers experiences across Qantas.
- Full-time and permanent position based at our new Product Innovation Centre in Adelaide.
Join Qantas at our brand-new Product Innovation Centre in Adelaide and take ownership of one of our most important internal platforms.
The Platform Manager – Salesforce owns the health, backlog and day-to-day management of the Salesforce platform, ensuring it is stable, secure, scalable and fit for purpose for product teams. The role balances platform standards, technical risk and product demand to enable faster, safer and more consistent delivery outcomes.
Working closely with other Product Managers, Engineers and Enterprise Architecture, the Platform Manager - Salesforce acts as a technical steward, overseeing platform lifecycle management, governing configuration and extension patterns, and ensuring platforms are consumable, reusable and designed for self-service across the organisation.
This is a leadership and ownership role, distinct from the hands-on technical lead sitting within the squad – you’ll be technically astute and know Salesforce well, but your focus will be on the platform’s value, reuse and direction, influencing how other squads build rather than controlling their backlogs directly. Your role will look to maximise value from the platform, advocating for its use and identifying new opportunities for existing or future users within Qantas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the Salesforce platform end to end – its health, security, reliability and lifecycle – treating it as a well-managed internal asset that product squads can build on with confidence.
- Lead a dedicated platform squad focused on platform health, reusable components and enablement, owning and prioritising its backlog.
- Build and maintain reusable components, shared services and global configurations that help other squads build faster, safer, more consistently.
- Set the guardrails – standards, patterns, access and security controls – that keep the platform secure, scalable and maintainable.
- Influence the direction other squads take towards reusable, secure solutions, providing the tools, patterns and oversight.
- Manage Salesforce’s mandatory release cycles and global configuration, planning ahead, managing all platform dependencies.
- Build a strong network with the squads building on the platform, keeping delivery rhythms in sync and dependencies visible.
- Champion the platform across Qantas – raising awareness of what it can do, finding new opportunities to put it to work, and maximising value from out-of-the-box capabilities.
- Manage day-to-day stakeholder relationships and any third-party vendors, including expectations, performance and service improvement.
- Own platform operational performance outcomes and act as escalation point for high priority incidents
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Typically, 7–10 years in platform, systems or technology management roles
- Hands-on experience with Salesforce (ideally Service and/or Sales Cloud) and a strong sense of how to extract value from the platform.
- A platform-as-a-product mindset – treating internal teams as your customers and caring about reuse, consistency and ease of use.
- Experience owning and prioritising platform backlogs, balancing delivery needs with stability, technical debt and security risk.
- Experience defining and applying platform governance, standards, guardrails and approved configuration patterns.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing platform reliability, performance, security, compliance, upgrades and release governance.
- Excellent communication skills, skilled at managing stakeholders and third-party vendors (including expectations, SLAs, performance and service improvement).
- Experience with hybrid delivery models (both in-house and externally delivered; onshore and offshore resources)
- Passion for Emergent Tech, AI, Product and Innovation
