Job description

Introduction

At Gallagher Benefit Services, you’re a trusted partner to organizations navigating some of their most important people decisions. We help clients build better workplaces, where people feel supported, empowered, and inspired to thrive. Whether it’s shaping benefit strategies, designing wellbeing programs, or advising on workforce challenges, the work you do here creates meaningful change for businesses and the people who power them. We’re a community of bold explorers, trusted experts, and compassionate partners; working side by side to solve problems, and shape the future of work. Here, curiosity is encouraged, collaboration is second nature, and your ideas have room to grow. If you’re looking for a place where your contribution matters and where you can help build a better world of work; think of Gallagher.

Overview

The investment consulting role at Gallagher is both client-facing and technical. As consultants, we have overall responsibility for our client relationships and the investment advice we deliver. To do this we collaborate closely with our specialists across our sustainable investment, asset-liability management, manager research and transition teams.

The majority of client work will focus on UK defined benefit corporate pension schemes, with the opportunity to develop experience across a broader range of institutional clients – including DC pension schemes, Charities, Endowments & Foundations, Insurers, Local Government Pension Schemes and Wealth Managers. We are keen to offer this flexibility to our people so they can develop broad experience and knowledge across different institutional investors.

We provide our Analysts and Senior Analysts with autonomy to contribute to key investment workstreams, as well as providing them with direct client exposure to in-house investment teams and Trustees that represent some of the largest asset owners in the UK and beyond.

This, alongside structured training, business development opportunities, and ongoing guidance from our lead consultants who take a genuine interest in your development, means our junior consultants have the support and opportunities required in order to grow in their careers.

How you'll make an impact

  • Work on a portfolio of institutional clients, taking ownership of day-to-day investment workstreams.
  • Prepare investment advice papers, collaborating with lead consultants and specialists teams across the business – including our sustainable investment, ALM, manager research and transitions teams.
  • Where possible, presenting and meeting with our clients’ in-house investment teams and investment committees.
  • Monitor client portfolios, capital markets developments and manager performance, ensuring clients' investment strategies remain fit for purpose.
  • Where applicable, support and mentor other junior team members, sharing investment knowledge and helping to build team capability.
  • Contribute to business development activity, including preparation of proposals and supporting new business initiatives.
  • Engage with wider industry conversations – through thought leadership, blogs or conference participation – where relevant.

About you

Essential

  • Confident communicator – able to present clearly and credibly to sophisticated clients.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative, manages workloads effectively and delivers to deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Basic working knowledge of capital markets and investment strategy.
  • For Analyst: No prior investment consulting experience required but keen interest in financial markets required.
  • For Senior Analyst: Approximately 1-3 years of investment consulting or related institutional investment experience, ideally with exposure to UK pension clients.

For Senior Analyst – desirable but not essential

  • CFA, FIA or equivalent professional qualification, or actively progressing towards one.
  • Familiarity with sustainable investment principles and their application in institutional portfolios.
  • An interest in contributing to industry dialogue through writing or speaking.
  • Experience in project management and managing multiple competing workstreams across different stakeholders.
