About the Team

The Workforce Identity Lifecycle Management (WILM) team is responsible for managing the end-to-end lifecycle of associate identities across Walmart’s global enterprise systems. We design, build, and operate large-scale identity provisioning systems that transform HR events into secure, compliant access across Active Directory, cloud platforms, and enterprise applications.

As part of Walmart’s IAM modernization strategy, we are building next-generation identity provisioning and lifecycle services to replace legacy systems and support millions of identities globally.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Software Engineer III to design and build scalable, secure, and highly available identity lifecycle systems. This engineer will play a key role in modernizing workforce identity provisioning, implementing complex business logic and attribute transformations, and integrating identity services across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

This role requires strong backend engineering experience, distributed systems thinking, and deep curiosity about identity, authentication, authorization, and access governance.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement identity lifecycle services for joiner, mover, leaver workflows

  • Build scalable provisioning engines integrating with:

    • HR systems

    • Active Directory

    • Entra ID / cloud platforms

    • Enterprise applications (via APIs, SCIM, LDAP, etc.)

  • Implement complex identity attribute transformations and validation pipelines

  • Develop event-driven and near-real-time identity processing workflows

  • Build resilient, highly available services (99.99% uptime target)

  • Write clean, testable, production-quality code with strong observability

  • Collaborate with IAM, InfoSec, HR tech, and platform teams

  • Participate in architectural design reviews and contribute to modernization strategy

  • Improve automation, CI/CD, and deployment practices

  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to engineering excellence

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience

  • Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages:

    • Java, C#, Go, or Python

  • Experience designing RESTful APIs and distributed services

  • Experience with:

    • Event-driven systems (Kafka, Pub/Sub, etc.)

    • Data transformation and processing pipelines

    • SQL and relational data modeling

  • Experience building secure systems with authentication and authorization controls

  • Strong debugging and production support skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Identity & Access Management (IAM) systems

  • Experience with:

    • Active Directory

    • Entra ID / Azure AD

    • SCIM provisioning

    • LDAP

    • SAML / OIDC

  • Experience replacing or modernizing legacy enterprise systems

  • Knowledge of:

    • Identity Governance (IGA)

    • Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC)

    • Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)

  • Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS)
