N99699 Groundsworker Facilities - Tahlequah Campus

JOB SUMMARY

This position performs duties in support of the department’s grounds maintenance operations.

MAJOR DUTIES

Assists with grounds maintenance activities: mows grass, cuts weeds, clears brush, and rakes leaves. Plants trees, flowers, and shrubs and trims trees and shrubs. Collects litter from campus grounds; empties trash cans. Moves office furniture; assists with setting up for special events. Captures and relocates nuisance animals. Applies herbicide and pesticide. Operates a variety of equipment, including a backhoe and dump truck. Operates hand and power tools, including chain saws, weedeaters, and lawn mowers. Cleans up storm damage. Assists with snow removal operations. Loads and unloads trucks. Transports materials and equipment to work sites. Provides support to other maintenance personnel. Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance principles. Knowledge of trash compactor maintenance and operation principles. Knowledge of department policies and procedures. Skill in the operation of job-related tools, vehicles, and equipment. Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Landscape and Grounds Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of related equipment operation duties. The variety of tasks to be performed contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of equipment in support of department operations. Success in this position results in safe and well-maintained buildings and grounds.

CONTACTS

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students, vendors, contractors, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Annual salary: $25,536.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
