JOB DESCRIPTION established and growing civil engineering consultant firm in the Phoenix, AZ metropolitan area, has an opening for a Director of Water/Wastewater Engineering to lead and expand its Water/Wastewater practice. This search is being conducted in direct partnership with the hiring manager. The company offers a highly competitive compensation package, including base salary, annual bonus, and equity/profit-sharing participation, along with long-term leadership growth opportunities. This position is Hybrid Remote. Overview: The Director of Water/Wastewater Engineering will provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership for the firm's Water/Wastewater Department. This role combines client engagement, team leadership, project oversight, and business development, with responsibility for driving continued growth across municipal and private-sector markets. Key Responsibilities:

Lead, manage the Water/Wastewater Department, overseeing a team of approximately 6-8 engineers and technical staff Serve as a senior technical leader, providing guidance and quality oversight across projects Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal and private clients, as well as local, state, and federal regulatory agencies Represent the firm through effective presentations to city councils, community groups, and selection committees Drive marketing and business development initiatives to grow the department, working closely with the Business Development Director and President Supervise staff performance, including hiring, coaching, and conducting performance reviews Define project scopes, develop schedules and work plans, and identify required subconsultants Prepare and negotiate fee proposals Maintain and expand existing client relationships while developing new business opportunities Ensure accurate project documentation for both client and internal purposes Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (or higher) from an accredited institution or similar field Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is desired; Out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain licensure within six months At least 12-15+ years of progressive engineering experience, including at least 8 years in project management within the Water/Wastewater Management industry Demonstrated experience and track record of delivering municipal water and wastewater projects Experience with both municipal and private-sector markets would be ideal Experience out of a Civil/Consulting Firm is preferred Strong local market knowledge with established client relationships in the Phoenix metro area is preferred Experience managing and developing engineering teams is preferred Please note: Will consider Lead Project Managers or Engineering Managers open to moving into a Director level position
