Job description

About the Opportunity

Our client is a specialized architectural metals company focused on the design, fabrication, and installation of custom aluminum, glass, and metal systems for residential, multifamily, commercial, and specialty construction projects across the United States.

The organization delivers highly customized architectural solutions, including railings, glass railings, stairs, handrails, pergolas, gates, fences, screen enclosures, glass systems, and other complex metal structures that require a strong combination of technical precision, constructability, and manufacturing expertise.

We are currently seeking an Architectural Metals Drafter / Designer who is passionate about transforming architectural concepts into detailed, production-ready solutions. This role is ideal for a technically minded professional with experience developing shop drawings, fabrication packages, installation drawings, and production documentation for custom architectural metal projects.

You will play a critical role in bridging design, engineering, manufacturing, and installation, ensuring that every project is accurately documented, technically feasible, and ready for fabrication and field execution.

This opportunity is particularly suited for professionals who enjoy working at the intersection of design, construction, and manufacturing while contributing to high-end architectural projects in a fast-paced and highly specialized environment.

What will you do in this position?

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Develop comprehensive technical documentation for architectural metal projects, including shop drawings, fabrication drawings, installation drawings, submittal packages, Bills of Materials (BOMs), cut lists, and production-ready documentation.
  • Design and document custom architectural metal systems in aluminum, glass, and steel, including railings, glass railings, stairs, handrails, pergolas, gates, fences, screen enclosures, and other specialized structures.
  • Interpret architectural drawings, engineering comments, field measurements, technical specifications, project markups, and client requirements to ensure accurate and buildable designs.
  • Produce detailed fabrication and installation packages, including elevations, sections, connection details, anchoring systems, dimensions, finishes, welding specifications, and construction notes.
  • Translate design intent into manufacturing-ready solutions by defining materials, components, quantities, assemblies, and technical specifications required for production.
  • Serve as a key liaison between design, engineering, project management, manufacturing, estimating, and installation teams, ensuring technical alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with fabrication and field installation teams to understand production constraints, assembly requirements, and site conditions, incorporating this feedback into practical and efficient design solutions.
  • Proactively identify design conflicts, constructability challenges, missing information, and fabrication constraints before releasing documentation to production.
  • Manage design revisions and technical updates based on feedback from clients, architects, engineers, fabricators, installers, and internal stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and version control.
  • Support the development of CNC, CAM, and other machine-ready files when required to facilitate manufacturing processes.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of drafting standards, technical documentation processes, product libraries, templates, and typical details to enhance efficiency and consistency across projects.
  • Manage multiple projects and concurrent revisions while maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and adherence to production schedules.

What should you have beforehand?

To succeed in this role, you will combine strong technical drafting expertise with a practical understanding of how architectural metal systems are manufactured, assembled, and installed in the field.

We are looking for professionals who have

  • A degree or technical background in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Drafting, or a related discipline.
  • At least 4 years of experience developing technical drawings, shop drawings, fabrication packages, and production documentation for architectural metal, aluminum, glass, or structural systems.
  • Proven experience supporting projects from design development through fabrication and installation, ensuring technical accuracy, constructability, and production readiness.
  • Hands-on experience working with products such as railings, glass railings, stairs, handrails, pergolas, gates, fences, screen enclosures, aluminum structures, façades, or similar architectural systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and the ability to efficiently produce detailed, accurate, and fabrication-ready documentation.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and installation processes, including material fabrication, assembly methods, anchoring systems, tolerances, finishes, welding details, and field execution requirements.
  • Experience preparing complete production packages, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), cut lists, fabrication details, and other documentation required to support manufacturing operations.
  • The ability to interpret and coordinate architectural drawings, construction documents, engineering markups, technical specifications, and field measurements to develop practical and buildable solutions.
  • Familiarity with U.S. construction standards, architectural documentation, and imperial measurement systems (feet and inches).
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work closely with project managers, engineers, fabricators, installers, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting manufacturing teams, CNC-driven production environments, or custom architectural fabrication projects.
  • Knowledge of U.S. building codes and construction practices, particularly within the architectural metals industry.
  • Exposure to additional design and modeling tools such as SolidWorks, Revit, Tekla, Inventor, Rhino, or Fusion 360.
  • Experience working on high-end residential, multifamily, hospitality, or commercial construction projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Spanish language skills are a plus but not required.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Revit, Tekla, Rhino, Fusion 360, Inventor, or similar drafting/modeling software.
  • Experience preparing CNC, CAM, laser, waterjet, or other fabrication-ready files.
  • Familiarity with welding details, aluminum fabrication, glass systems, anchoring systems, and architectural metal connections.
  • Experience coordinating directly with fabrication shops and field installation teams.
  • Experience improving drafting standards, templates, workflows, and production documentation processes.

Desired Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and dimensional accuracy.
  • Practical, production-minded approach to design and drafting.
  • Clear communication with manufacturing, shop-floor, installation, and project management teams.
  • Ability to listen to shop-floor feedback and convert it into better, more efficient, and more buildable drawings.
  • Strong organization and ability to manage multiple projects, revisions, and deadlines.
  • Ownership, autonomy, and accountability.
  • Ability to balance design intent, manufacturing efficiency, installation practicality, material usage, and project profitability.
  • Collaborative mindset: the ability to ask, "What is the best way to build this?" before finalizing a drawing.

What will you receive?

  • Opportunity to work on custom architectural metal projects in Florida.
  • Direct exposure to real fabrication and installation projects.
  • In-person collaboration with project management, manufacturing, and installation teams.
  • Specialized technical environment focused on quality, precision, and execution.
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and technical capability.
  • Long-term growth opportunity within a specialized architectural metal fabrication company.
