Assistant Construction Manager - Transmission & Distribution
Job description
Key Responsibilities
•
Support and comply with company safety programs, training requirements, and policies; collaborate with project teams to manage Safety & Health performance of employees, contractors, and partners.
•
Collaborate with the Project Management team to support client relationships and interface with clients on proposal development and project-related matters.
•
Assist in developing internal and external project risk reviews and coordinate with Legal as required.
•
Coordinate the development and execution of project plans, including:
•
Project Execution Plan
•
Quality Assurance Plan
•
Safety & Health Plan
•
Subcontracting Plan
•
Project Staffing Plan
•
Organizational Charts
•
Procurement Plan
•
Support negotiation, approval, and execution of prime contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders.
•
Develop and assist with implementation of site mobilization and demobilization plans.
•
Obtain and maintain required project permits.
•
Support bidder registration, pre-qualification, and subcontractor evaluation efforts.
•
Prepare Requests for Proposal (RFPs), assist with detailed scope development, bid evaluation, and contract award documentation.
•
Support implementation of project specifications, drawing releases, and design changes.
•
Execute contract administration activities including RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, change management, and claims mitigation.
•
Assist with cost control, scheduling, work breakdown structures, project setup, closeout activities, and field progress tracking.
•
Prepare project status updates related to safety, risks, schedule, costs, and cash flow for internal and external stakeholders.
•
Support invoicing processes for prime contracts, subcontracts, suppliers, and client contractors.
•
Establish and maintain project documentation, filing systems, and document control processes.
•
Verify compliance of insurance, licensing, taxes, duties, and bonding requirements for contractors and suppliers.
•
Participate in and support project safety, quality, progress, and financial audits.
•
Facilitate material receiving, inventory control, storage, transportation, and materials management processes.
•
Collaborate with Superintendents and Site Managers to ensure subcontractor compliance with contract terms, safety, quality, and schedule requirements.
•
Support project turnover, closeout documentation, warranty tracking, and records retention.
•
Assist with maintaining compliance across all project activities through consistent application of company policies and procedures.
•
Support development of project labor agreements and onboarding of craft and field supervision as required.
•
Analyze composite crew rates, labor burdens, and equipment costs.
•
Coordinate staffing needs with field operations and HR teams.
•
Monitor labor classifications, benefits, labor laws, and craft progression records.
•
Assist in maintaining standards of craft competency, training, and development.
•
Estimate, forecast, and manage craft production rates and installation unit rates to ensure cost, schedule, and earned value targets are met.
•
Support applicable craft training initiatives.
•
Manage construction equipment inventory to ensure project readiness.
•
Perform additional duties as assigned.
•
Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
Qualifications
•
Bachelors degree in Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant construction experience; equivalent experience may substitute for a degree.
•
Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access.
•
Experience with document control, scheduling, cost control, and project management software preferred.
•
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
•
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
•
Prior experience on construction sites or program management projects within industries such as aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transmission & distribution, transportation, or water is preferred.
•
Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
•
Ability to meet company driving requirements.
