Who We Are Looking For

Job Duties & Responsibilities

The role is anticipated to be split between estate planning paralegal work and LAA work for the estate planning, estate, and tax team. The split between these roles will vary based on the needs of the team from time to time and requires a highly collaborative approach.

Estate Planning Paralegal – Core Duties

  • Responsible for the drafting wills, powers of attorney, and representation agreements and associate ancillary documents
  • Drafting trusts, including family, alter ego, joint partner, and disability trust documentation and any associated ancillary documents
  • Collaborate closely with the Wills & Estate team and internally with lawyers and staff to ensure efficient processes and ongoing precedent system development

LAA – Core Duties

  • Liaise internally with lawyers and staff on various matters
  • Coordinate and manage incoming queries, including requests for historical files
  • Handle incoming mail and records books, including coordinating scanning into the system
  • Prepare notarial copies and certified copies
  • Manage file administration, including conflict searches, file opening and closing, client identification and verification, and maintenance of electronic and physical files
  • Coordinate calendars, meetings, signing appointments, and related logistics
  • Assist with billing, time entry, and invoice preparation

General

  • Attention to detail and professional communication skills are a must
  • Responsible for maintaining an updated BF system and demonstrating excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Conduct corporate, land title, personal property, and other legal searches as required
  • Prepare, review, and finalize legal correspondence and documentation
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Estate Planning drafting.
  • A certificate/diploma from an accredited Paralegal program is an asset. Equivalent work experience is also considered.
  • Ability to independently draft wills, powers of attorney, representation agreements, and trusts, including family, alter ego, and joint partner trusts.
  • Excellent typing, proofreading and inter personal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Able to take initiative and use good judgement.
  • Able to communicate professionally with clients, lawyers, and staff.

Salary The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $86,000, which reflects the firm’s reasonable estimate of expected compensation for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation will depend on a variety of factors, including the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
