Senior Technical Writer
Job description
Accountabilities This role is responsible for transforming complex technical research and evaluation data into clear, executive-level communications that support decision-making and external engagement.
- Translate dense DOE National Laboratory M&V reports into concise, decision-ready findings summaries and executive briefs.
- Review technical drafts and collaborate with laboratory teams to improve clarity, resolve gaps, and ensure accuracy of messaging.
- Develop communication materials such as press releases, articles, newsletters, and award or conference submissions.
- Create webinar content and briefing decks that effectively communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
- Conduct interviews with deployment and technical teams to develop case studies and narrative-driven content.
- Draft recurring leadership updates and executive communications with a consistent, polished voice.
- Distill complex technical findings into clear recommendations that answer key strategic and operational questions.
Requirements
This position requires strong technical writing expertise combined with the ability to understand and communicate complex building technology and data-driven evaluation work.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Technical Writing, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6+ years of experience in technical writing, scientific communication, or related fields.
- Proven ability to translate complex technical or analytical content into clear executive-level messaging.
- Working knowledge of building technologies, measurement & verification (M&V) processes, and data analysis concepts.
- Strong editorial, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical experts and multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities with strong attention to clarity and precision.
- Experience developing communications for both internal leadership and external/public audiences.
