Job description

Position: Sous Chef (River Cruise)

Contract Details

This is a full-time, seasonal position with a minimum contract length of 6 months. The position will involve working on board one of our luxury river cruise ships, which travels along some of the most beautiful rivers in the world. As a Sous Chef, you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, while also having the chance to explore new destinations and cultures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist the Executive Chef in managing the daily operations of the galley kitchen
  • Supervise and train kitchen staff, ensuring high standards of food preparation and presentation
  • Create and develop new menu items, taking into consideration guest preferences and dietary restrictions
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety and sanitation standards
  • Maintain inventory levels and order supplies as needed
  • Monitor and control food costs and waste
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as the dining room and bar, to ensure a seamless dining experience for guests
  • Participate in menu planning and special events, such as themed dinners and cooking demonstrations
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures, as well as maritime laws and regulations

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Sous Chef in a high-volume, fine dining establishment
  • Culinary degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of different cuisines and cooking techniques
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to work and live in a close-knit team environment for an extended period of time
  • Fluent in English, additional languages are a plus
