The Role
This APP position offers a dynamic blend of surgical and medical oncology responsibilities , supporting patients across the continuum of urologic cancer care. You will work closely with urologic oncologists while developing deep clinical expertise in both procedural and longitudinal management.
On a typical day, you will
Work Monday-Friday ( no call, no weekends ) from 8am-5pm in outpatient clinic.
Partner with urology - oncology surgeons and interdisciplinary teams to manage complex cancer patients
Provide pre-operative, intra-operative support, and post-operative care , including rounding and consults
Manage patients in the clinic setting , including follow-ups and treatment coordination
Participate in treatment planning, patient education, and symptom management across disease stages
Contribute to continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient environments in a hybrid surgical-medical model
Engage in a high-acuity, high-complexity patient population requiring advanced clinical decision-making and adaptability

APPs work under two collaborating physicians
Over approximately two years , APPs transition toward increased independence
Nurse Practitioners function as advanced practice RNs with structured collaboration, while Physician Assistants operate within a medical model with a distinct pathway to independent clinical practice
Physician collaboration remains a foundational element , ensuring both clinical excellence and professional support

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
Experience: Department and unit specific.
Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
The pay range for this role is $116,123.00 - $171,163.20 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
