Responsibilities
The Litigation Speciliast provides support to the underwriting process, making appropriate decisions within your underwriting assigned authority levels. The role will review insurance applications and process accounts while projecting a professional company image through internal and external customer interaction.
Additionally, the role will
- Identify and develop plans to expand agency relationships with assigned offices.
- Provide analysis and identification of agency staff to develop plans and approaches for building deeper agency relationships.
- Assess new and renewal accounts to determine acceptability based on Aspire underwriting guidelines and authority granted.
- Review new and renewal accounts to verify issuance is in compliance with Aspire underwriting guidelines, address discrepancies as needed, and enter information into appropriate systems.
- Establish types and limits of coverage to be provided.
- Create, analyze, and interpret data from various systems and underwriting resources.
- Monitor production, profitability, and maintain agency relationships.
- Collaborate with underwriting team as well as other departments on underwriting philosophy.
- Effectively communicate (written/verbal) information to both internal and external customers to ensure our standards of excellence are maintained.
- Consult with agency staff to obtain additional information on existing accounts.
- Promote consistency throughout underwriting teams by contributing knowledge and soliciting feedback relative to underwriting philosophy and company goals.
- Maintain confidentiality with discretion and integrity with both internal and external information.
- Maintain familiarity with state laws and filing requirements within assigned territory to properly transact business within a state.
- Consult with underwriting team to determine if reinsurance is needed and negotiate terms with designated reinsurer companies.
- Identify and recommend changes to policy verbiage when standard text is not appropriate. Seek manager approval before implementing.
- Monitor the amount of insurance in force on a single risk or group of closely related risks. Evaluate the possibility of catastrophe losses and take necessary action.
- Occasionally assist with the development of special programs, underwriting procedures, and educational seminars.
- Compose reports and business correspondence such as travel summaries, agendas, and meeting minutes.
- Coordinate internal and/or external visits including, but not limited to, scheduling meetings, confirming staff availability, and arranging meals/entertainment.
- Provide guidance and support to less experienced team members within the department.
- Travel to agent offices and/or other external events is required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
ADMITTED ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (when applicable)
- Process applicable state forms.
- Maintain familiarity with rule and rate filings.
- Utilize various underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications and calculate rates and premium charges by using approved rating methods.
- Review state laws and filing requirements within assigned territory to properly transact business within a state.
- Calculate rates and premium charges by using approved rating methods in accordance with current state filings.
- Assess issued policies to assure that the proper policy forms have been attached in accordance with current state filings.
Qualifications
- A minimum of fifteen years of experience in insurance.
- Excess and Surplus lines background preferred.
- Construction defect experience is beneficial.
- Commercial General Liability experience is required.
- CPCU, AIC, AEI or other insurance-related classes/designations preferred.
