Responsibilities

  • Supports billing and collections at Industrial Medicine
  • Oversees the charge submission, coding and reimbursement processes
  • Performs precertification and scheduling to include assigning duties, checking work, and preparing performance evaluations
  • Performs coding functions for specialist departments
  • Identifies appropriate patient case and confirms patient/case information
  • Requests new case set-ups and changes to existing cases
  • Assist in making necessary demographic and insurance additions, deletions, and changes to guarantor/patient information using a SYSTOC
  • Rebills claims as directed
  • Corrects and processes insurance edit lists
  • Assists with preparation of provider services/charges for submission to appropriate payer to include place of service, facility, provider number, referring number, IC0-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS
  • Assists with researching billing issues and problems
  • Processes and research billing inquiries
  • Reviews charges for proper diagnosis and procedures codes and requests required attachments for reimbursements
  • Assist with reconciling daily batches ad reconciles service logs to ensure capture of all billable services
  • Reviews the physician charge processes to maximize charge capture and reimbursement
  • Prepares reports for managers
  • Recommends and implements new procedures
  • Possesses and maintains a high level of familiarity with coding and billing rules and W/C fee schedules, CPT, HCPCS and ICO-10
  • Plans and prioritizes workflows to meet deadlines
  • Communicates policies and procedures and works with staff to ensure compliance
  • Assists with staff development
  • Coordinates coding/billing training of office staff
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years directly related experience in a medical business office Required
  • Medical billing experience and experience with SYSTOC Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
