Are you excited about this Planner II job?

As a Planner II, you will perform professional-level urban planning duties, including case research, data collection, and analysis for processing site plans, plats, permit reviews, rezoning requests, and variances. This role has a strong focus on development review consistency and historic preservation within the City of Richmond. The ideal candidate operates with a high degree of integrity, fosters transparency, and effectively collaborates with city departments, developers, and the community to implement the City's long-term vision.

What you need to be successful

To excel as a Planner II, candidates must combine a strong understanding of urban planning and zoning principles with exceptional critical thinking skills. Success in this role requires a high level of attention to detail to ensure timely, thorough plan reviews, as well as strong time management to navigate daily priorities. Additionally, excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for effective team collaboration.

Adaptability is key, as your role may involve shifting between different tasks and projects throughout the day. Lastly, a commitment to continuous learning will support your growth and enhance your contributions to the City of Richmond's long-term vision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or a closely related field (an emphasis or coursework in historic preservation is highly desirable).
  • Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of professional municipal or regional planning experience (the required years may scale based on the level of educational background).Must be able to work independently without supervision.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Active membership in the American Planning Association (APA) and eligibility/progress toward AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) certification.
