Overview

The Cherokee Immersion School is unique in that all classes are taught using only Cherokee language, syllabary for written communication, and Cherokee language in verbal communications. Teachers will supervise students, setup classroom labs, develop curriculum and lesson plans as well as provide a safe, clean, orderly, and healthy learning environment.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university in Education; no substitutions.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

None required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before a group of customers or employees or organizations. Must be fluent in Cherokee Language with reading and writing Cherokee Syllabary.

COMPUTER SKILLS

A n individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Must possess a valid Oklahoma State Department of Education Teacher Certification in Early Childhood or Cherokee.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be fluent in the Cherokee language (reading, writing, and speaking). Master-level using Syllabary. Continue professional development through attending workshops, conferences, and other staff development.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Familiar with Microsoft Office programs. The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.

Develops lesson plans. Teaches daily lessons. Positively displays the children's projects. Operates technology equipment. Maintains reports and records as required. Physically arranges the room and equipment for learning sessions. Maintains communication with parents and staff in both written and verbal form. Prepares the classroom by making sure the room is clean and orderly. Participates in all co-curricular and extra-curricular events. Develops curriculum for classroom use. Models developmental appropriate activities and positive behavior management techniques through daily contact with children and early childhood staff in the classroom. Observes (physical, emotional, cognitive, and cultural) for use in planning the children's activities. Creates a warm, care, and safe environment for the children. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities.
