About the Opportunity North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (“NC A&T”) is seeking an outstanding, strategic, and collaborative leader to serve as Associate Vice Chancellor (“AVC”) for Facilities. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance and serving as a key member of the division’s leadership team, the AVC for Facilities provides executive leadership for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the University’s physical campus.
The next Associate Vice Chancellor will join NC A&T during a period of continued growth and momentum. Working closely with campus leaders and stakeholders, the AVC for Facilities will align infrastructure and facilities priorities with the University’s strategic goals while providing visionary leadership, operational excellence, and a commitment to continuous improvement in support of the institution’s long-term success.

About the Team The Office of Facilities provides quality service through the planning, building, operation, maintenance, and enhancement of NC A&T's physical campus. Supporting the University's research, teaching, and service mission, the Office of Facilities plays a critical role in maintaining an environment that supports student success and institutional excellence around the clock.
The Office of Facilities comprises Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, Physical Plant, Property Management, Support Services, and Motor Fleet, and administers the University's custodial services contract. Together, these units support the daily operation of the campus and the long-term stewardship of the University's physical assets.
About the Role The Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities ensures the long-term stewardship of the University's physical assets and aligns facilities services with the Preeminence 2030: NC A&T Blueprint and the Campus Master Plan. The AVC oversees the Office of Facilities, which includes five directors and a staff of over 150. This is a full-time onsite position in Greensboro, NC.
Key areas of responsibility include
Strategic planning : Serve as the University's principal advisor on facilities strategy, leading long-range planning, capital investment, deferred maintenance, and facilities initiatives that support the Campus Master Plan and Preeminence 2030. Establish priorities and performance measures that ensure effective stewardship of the University's physical assets.
Facilities Operations and Utilities Management : Provide executive leadership for the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the University's facilities, utilities, grounds, custodial services, fleet, and campus infrastructure. Ensure reliable, customer-focused operations through preventive maintenance, asset management, utility planning, and operational resilience.
Engineering Design and Analysis : Lead the planning, design, construction, and delivery of the University's capital projects while serving as the institution's representative with the UNC System and State Construction Office. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
Environmental Health and Safety : Oversee the University's environmental health and safety programs, ensuring regulatory compliance and promoting a safe campus environment. Partner with campus leaders and regulatory agencies to advance risk management, emergency preparedness, and environmental stewardship.
Administrative Management : Provide strategic and administrative leadership for the Facilities organization, including oversight of budgets, personnel, contracts, and capital resources. Build collaborative relationships across the University while fostering a high-performing, accountable, and customer-focused organization.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in facilities management, construction management, or a related area.
- Experience leading facilities operations, maintenance, construction, or infrastructure initiatives within a complex organization.
- Knowledge of building systems, construction practices, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards.
- Experience with capital projects, procurement processes, and contract administration.
- Understanding of the operational needs of a large organization; experience in higher education is beneficial.
- Strong leadership, communication, planning, and organizational skills.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
- Master’s degree in facilities management, construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- Experience in a higher education environment.
- Professional licensure or certification in engineering, architecture, or construction.
