Automation Technician-3rd shift
Job description
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform scheduled and preventive maintenance on automated machines, robotic systems, and control equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and PLC-related issues on production equipment.
- Calibrate sensors, vision systems, actuators, and other automation components to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with Engineering to assist in equipment upgrades, installations, and commissioning of new machinery.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, ladder logic, and equipment manuals.
- Use diagnostic tools and software (e.g., PLC programming interfaces, HMIs) to resolve control system faults.
- Document maintenance actions and machine modifications in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts for automation equipment performance.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety and regulatory standards (OSHA, NFPA, etc.).
- Working with PLCs or other programming languages to troubleshoot, modify, or optimize automated systems
- Responsible for automation repairs assigned that are typically of a complex nature and require a high degree of skill and thorough working knowledge of automation practices and techniques.
- Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions
EDUCATION AND EXPRERIENCE: Education
- An associate’s degree or diploma in mechatronics, robotics, mechanical engineering or industrial automation or related field
- A high school diploma combined with on-the-job training for entry level roles
- Certified in robotics, automation, mechanical drafting, PLC or electrical systems
- Certified in programming systems such as Python or C++
Experience & Skills
- 3+ years of experience in an electronics or mechanical assembly environment
- Exposure to PLC-controlled machinery, sensors, or pick-and-place robotics
- Basic understanding of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement principles
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with hand tools and fixtures
- Strong understanding of mechanics, electronics, and software integration
- Ability to troubleshoot systems
- Familiar with programming languages used in robotics and CAD software
- Ability to read schematics and blueprints
- Problem solving skills to optimize processes and minimize downtime
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards
- Ability to learn new systems quickly and follow detailed instructions
