Position Overview:
The Sealer Production Team Leader is responsible for managing daily seam sealing, underbody coating, PVC application, and cavity protection operations in the automotive paint shop. This role ensures proper body sealing performance, water leak, noise reduction, corrosion protection, and appearance quality in accordance with OEM standards. The position leads production teams to achieve Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, and Morale (QCDSM) objectives while ensuring compliance with safety regulations, process specifications, and standard work. The Team Leader serves as the primary link between production, quality, maintenance, and engineering for sealer-related operation.
Responsibilities:
- Lead daily sealer production activities to meet shift output, takt time, and delivery targets.
- Manage seam sealing, underbody coating, stone-chip coating, and cavity waxing processes.
- Ensure correct application sequence and coverage for body joints, flanges, and critical sealing areas.
- Coordinate line balance, manpower allocation, and work assignments during production shifts.
- Support smooth line start-up, changeovers, and recovery after stoppages.
- Ensure correct set-up and control of manual and robotic sealer application systems.
- Monitor and control critical parameters including: Bead size, width, and continuity, Material pressure and flow rate, Gun temperature and sealing pattern accuracy, Ensure correct material usage.
- Verify tool calibration and standardization of nozzles, tips, and applicators.
- Ensure body sealing quality meets OEM requirements for: Water leak prevention, Corrosion protection, NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness) performance, Appearance and finish.
- Enforce all safety procedures related to chemical handling, ergonomics, and equipment operation.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for preventive and breakdown maintenance of sealer equipment.
- Drive improvement activities to reduce sealer consumption, rework, and scrap.
- Participate in Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing activities.
Skills & Qualification Required:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Production Engineering, or equivalent technical qualification.
- 2-4 years of experience in an automotive paint shop sealer operations.
- Prior experience in a supervisory or team leader role preferred.
- Knowledge of OEM quality standards, safety regulations, and production systems.
- Willingness to work in shifts and support flexible production schedules.
- Strong knowledge of automotive sealer processes,application and materials
- Understanding of sealer manual and robotic application requirements and corrosion protection principles.
- Ability to read drawings, application maps, and process specifications.
- Familiarity with robotic and manual sealer application systems.
- Basic knowledge of sealer defects, repair and process audits.
- Proven shop-floor leadership and team management capability
- Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skill
- Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation
- Continuous improvement and safety-focused mindset
